Eric Tomecek lead the field to the green flag and never looked back as the 1w lead the entire 25 lap event uncontested en route to a $2,500 payday.
With 26 cars signed into the pit area, three heat races were used to determine the starting lineup of the 25-lap sprint car feature event. Heat race 1 saw Nate Snyder jump out to an early lead and lead the entire 8 laps. Following Snyder to the checkered flag was the 47 of 2016 URC Rookie of the Year Adam Carberry and the 73b of Brett Michalski. Heat race 2, saw the 76 of Larry Kelleher and the 28f of Davie Franek lead the 8 cars to the green flag. Chad Layton picked up heat race 2 win followed by the 76 of Larry Kelleher and the 5G of Curt Michael. The third and final heat race saw the 08 of Jason Clauss and the 1w of Eric Tomecek lead the 8 sprint cars to the green flag. Picking up the heat race win was the Tomecek followed to the line by Cody Keller and Clauss. With 2 cars not making the heat races, the field dropped to 24 cars and a B-Main was not needed.
Courtesy of some good luck in the redraw, the 1w of Eric Tomecek and the 47 of Adam Carberry lead the 24-car starting field to the green flag. Tomecek quickly jumped out to the lead followed closely by the 47 of Carberry. The initial start was quickly red flagged due to a flipping Jim Shuster down the front stretch. Also involved was the 7K of Kris Lilick but Lilick was able to resume and tag onto the back of the field. On the restart, again Tomecek jumped out to the lead with Adam Carberry following. The 2016 URC Rookie of the Year has had a disastrous year only finishing 2 feature events to date. A lap 4 caution was shown for a slowing 08 of Jason Clauss. The 6 of Shawn Hosey also headed to the pit area.
The lap 4 restart went Tomecek’s way again taking the lead off turn 4, but just 4 laps later the caution was again displayed for the 33 of Mike Walter. Also heading to the pits was the 22 of Troy Betts with a flat right rear. The Betts crew quickly changed the Hoosier tire and the 22 headed back out joining the tail end of the field. The field would get 1 more lap in before the caution was displayed for one final time, this time for the 66 of Ryan Kissinger who slowed coming off turn 2.
With Kissinger into the pits, Tomecek again took the lead and set sail for the remaining 16 laps heading to his first Capitol Renegade United Racing Club win of his career. Following the 1w to the line was the 99K of Cody Keller, the 29 of Jason Shultz, the 5G of Curt Michael and the 47c of Adam Carberry rounding out the top 5.
URC Tidbits: Carberry finished a best 5th place finish for 2017. Points leader Curt Michael continued to pad his lead finishing in the 4th position was Davie Franek finishing 8th. If Jason Shultz could start up front he would have potentially 3-4 wins on the season. Shultz marched from 18th to finish 3rd. Magic Fingers Michalski again drew the #1 pill on the night and started on the pole for heat race 1. Josh Weller drove a heck of a race finishing in the 10th position after starting 23rd. Weller was a victim of a poor draw and then got stuck behind several slower cars in his heat race. The Club has 1 more race at Selinsgrove for 2017, a Labor Day event which sits in the middle of Williams Grove and Path Valley Speedways.
The United Racing Club will be back in action next Friday as the club travels to Penn Can Speedway as part of a PST URC doubleheader. The Club will then head to the hard clay of Orange County Fair Speedway located in Middletown NY.
