Mid-Summer Highlight Takes Place At I-88 Speedway; $29,000 Purse Awaits Competitors In ‘Crazy 8s Special’ At Afton Fairgrounds I-88 Speedway!

128AFTON, NY –July 25, 2016-  A Mid-Summer Highlight in the Southern Tier is set for this Wednesday!

The fourth edition of the ‘Crazy 8s Special’ at the pristine three-tenths-mile Afton Fairgrounds oval known as I-88 Speedway is set for July 27, with a rain date of the following day. Annually, the ‘Crazy 8s Special’ is the highest-paying event in the region. It is no different in 2016.

The big-block/small-block Modified race winner takes home a massive $8,888 winner’s share if they post the pre-race ‘Gambler’s Fee’ – 10th-place receives $888, with $388 set to take the green flag. Additional contingency awards and bonuses are up for grabs, as well.

The complete payout, totaling more than $29,000 for this event is as follows: 1. ($8,888 with “Gamblers” or $6,888 without); 2. $3,388; 3. $2,288; 4. $1,688; 5. $1,488; 6. $1,288; 7. $1,188; 8. $1,088; 9. $988; 10. $888; 11. $688; 12. $588; 13. $488; 14-Last. $388.

The ‘Crazy 8s Special’ marks Race No. 6 of the Bob Hilbert Sportswear Short Track Super Series Fueled By VP Halmar International North Region.

Ransomville, N.Y., driver Erick Rudolph tops the series standings entering I-88 in search of a $12,000 title. Rudolph, with 413 points, leads defending North Region champion Stewart Friesen of Sprakers, N.Y., by 26 points. Danny Johnson of Rochester, N.Y., (340), Andy Bachetti of Sheffield, Mass., (339) and Danny Creeden of Wurtsboro, N.Y. (336 points) complete the front five.

The top-12 drivers in the STSS North Region are paid at year end. Currently sixth through 12th are Tommy Meier of Waldwick, N.J., (317), Anthony Perrego of Montgomery, N.Y. (296), Matt DeLorenzo of Cropseyville, N.Y. (291), Mike Mahaney of King Ferry, N.Y. (286), Billy Van Inwegen of Sparrowbush, N.Y. (272), Mike Ricci of Tillson, N.Y. (243) and Jerry Higbie of Newburgh, N.Y.

Joining the STSS Modifieds on the docket are GRIT Series Crate 602 Sportsman ($1,000 to win) and XCel 600 Modifieds ($1,000 to win).

Pit gates open at 3 p.m. Grandstand gates will be unlocked at 4 p.m. The drivers’ meeting will take place at 5:45 p.m., with hot laps at 6 p.m. and racing at 7 p.m.

Adult admission is $22. Students ages 9-14 pay $12. Kids 8 and under are FREE. Pit admission is $35, with no license required.
