267ACCORD, NY –July 16, 2016- A beautiful summer day in the Catskill Mountains of New York brought in a great crowd of fans on Friday evening as the Accord Speedway hosted a seven feature event race card that was completed by 11 PM. Thursday night rains inundated the speedway racing surface but quick and decisive work all day Friday and a never say die attitude from Promoter Gary Palmer had the racetrack ship-shape and very racy after the hot lap sessions were completed.

The three and four lane wide racing action throughout the evening saw some familiar faces as well as some new winners being showcased in the Lucas Oil Products Victory Lane. The evening of speed was sponsored by the good folks at Emmanuel’s Marketplace located in Stone Ridge, New York.

For more information regarding Emmanuel’s Marketplace, folks can check out their extensive website at: www.emmanuelsmarketplace.com Upstate Auto was the Checkered Flag sponsor for the evening.

When the racing was completed it was “The Montgomery Missile” Anthony Perrego standing tall in the Lucas Oil Products Victory Lane after having secured his first Accord win of the season with a brassy move the racing railbirds will talk about for weeks to come in the United Pump & Tank Modified division. The Healey Brothers Group Sportsman main was captured by “Jammin” Jimmy Wells for his eighth win of the season. The Ruge’s Performance NEWS Sprint Car main event found former Quad Champion at the speedway Eric Jennings, mastering the oval for his first career sprint car win at Accord.

The Arkel Motors Pure Stock division feature had outside invader Kevin Skelly coming in and out hustling a solid field of talent in capturing his first win of the season. The WRWD Radio Junior Slingshot event found John Kendall hitting on all cylinders to capture his third consecutive win of the season. The Ruge’s GM Parts Center Rookie Sportsman main was captured by a high flying Tighe Sherlock as he sped to his second win of the season. Dave Donovan made it two wins in a row in the Emmanuel’s Marketplace Four Cylinder Fireball Enduro event.

Chad Loiodice and Mark Pullen brought the United Pump & Tank Modified field to the line to kick off the thirty lap headliner. Loiodice, a first year campaigner at the speedway, jumped into the lead and would surge out front for the first five laps. A skirmish brought the field to halt and when racing resumed it was “PrimeTime” Scott Ferrier grabbing the lead from the topside and tried to race away from the field but fast moving Danny Creeden and Anthony Perrego were not going to let that happen. The trio of racers broke away from the field and the racing action was classic as each driver had his favorite seam of the raceway and attacked the speedway methodically for the ever so precious real estate in front of them.

213While the racing action upfront was superb, the drivers working their way forward were putting on a show of their own as again the typical two and three wide action found Mike Ricci, Danny Tyler and outside invader Mike Butler on the quick way forward.

Danny Creeden worked to inside of Ferrier on a number of occasions but Ferrier had enough pedal to remain in front. Meanwhile, it was Perrego in the catbird’s seat as he remained tight to the leaders while riding in third place. With five laps to go and a clear winner in doubt, Ferrier driving the middle, Creeden working the bottom and Perrego with the best seat in the house bolted to the top of the raceway with a daring top brass maneuver through turns one and two and came away with the lead down the backstretch. Perrego would go on to win with Ferrier in second, Loiodice in third and “Iron” Mike Ricci in fourth from 11th starting spot. “Showtime” Danny Tyler finished fifth after coming back through the field twice.

Garden Stater “Iron” Mike Butler came from 20th staring position to finish sixth in a solid drive forward in his Short Load Concrete sponsored hot rod. Jesse Marks, Ed Dachenhausen, Mark Pullen and Danny Creeden completed the top ten.

Recent feature winner Travis Brockner grabbed the lead at the start of the Arkel Motors Pure Stock encounter and led through the first two laps before yielding to “The Intimidator” Ray Tarantino. Tarantino would lead though lap nine when a flat tire forced him pit side. Kevin Skelly inherited the lead and would battle it out the rest of the way with Steve Williams as Skelly would prevail and garner his first Accord win of the season. Williams settled for second with Bob Sleight racing from 19th to grab third place. Chris Kanuk and Harry Bachman completed the top five. Gary Ronk headed up the second five with Livy Johnson, Jimmy Sykes, Mike DuBois Jr and newcomer Johnny Miracle completing the top ten.

The Healey Brothers Sportsman feature found Chris Stevens gunning into the lead from his front row starting spot and kept his racer out front through the first 19-laps. Jimmy Wells, who is having a dream season at the speedway, began in fifth position but steadily worked his way into contention. Using the baseline as his guide, Wells powered off of the bottom of the race track to pull even with Stevens and outraced him to turn three where he took over the lead for good. Wells would score his eighth win of the season. Stevens had a great drive in the runner-up role with Brandon McGill enjoying a tremendous run for third place. Collin DuBois and newcomer Milton Mann completed the top five with Vinnie Gress sixth.

Hunter Lapp led the first four laps of the WRWD Radio Junior Slingshot encounter before yielding to John Kendall via a slide job. Once in front, Kendall built up a five car lead that began to dwindle in the last five laps of the event. Kendall went on to record his third consecutive win at the speedway. Lapp was the runner-up with Michael Corbin third, Jake Mason Fourth, Jaden Sleight fifth and Ashton Dewitt Sixth.

In the Ruge’s Rookie Sportsman clash, Tighe Sherlock powered into the lead on the first lap and showed his tailpipes to the rest of the field on his way to his second win of the season. Jim Kraus and Jason Feinberg kept pace to finish behind Sherlock and recent winner Stan Vishinski was fourth and Matt Shultz fifth. Steve Plumstead, RJ Daley, Kevin Stevens, Ryan McCarthy John Dewitt and Sarah Smith completed the field.

Eric Jennings grabbed the lead at the start of the Ruge’s NEWS Sprint main and dirt tracked his way to his very first victory in full size cars. Larry Ricci provided plenty of competition with a fine runner-up performance while Modified driver Richard Smith was third and Jesse James Bartleson fourth.

In another typical knockdown, drag’em out four cylinder showdown presented by Emmanuel’s Markeplace, Dave Donovan made it two wins in a row as he used the top of the raceway for the most part, went downstairs when he needed to and just plain drove his way to a solid victory at Accord over another two time winner George Zeininger. Newcomer Cody Suitter was third.

GEMSTONES:

The heavy rain that fell throughout Thursday evening had Gary Palmer working over time and then some to have the track ready for the evening of racing. Palmer kept pace with the track surface and had the track racy throughout the evening, offering up to four avenues of racing channels for the solid roster of entries.

Heat races again provided some great racing entertainment for the fans as Travis Brockner, Ray Tarantino and Steve Williams recorded wins in the Pure Stock division. Sportsman heat events were claimed by Chris Stevens and Brandon McGill. Rookie Sportsman heats found Jim Kraus and Tighe Sherlock notching wins. The Junior Slingshot division offered up one heat with Michael Corbin recording the win. Eric Jennings captured the heat win in the NEWS Sprints. Modified heats were claimed by Joe Judge, Scott Ferrier and Ken Ferrier.

New faces at the speedway were abundant as 36 Four Cylinder Enduros came to play. New Modifieds included Mike Butler, Eric Acquaro and a new mount for Ed Dachenhausen. Milton Mann was a new entry and enjoyed a good run in the Sportsman. Steve Plumstead was new Rookie driver. The Pure Stocks came out in full force and it was good to see as Ton Hausman, John Woinoski, Kevin Skelly, Bill Moylan, Jim Smith, Johnny Miracle, Curt Ayers and Kyle Welsh were all new entries.

Happy Birthday wishes go out to Mason Demorest.

The Fireworks Extravaganza and Chicken BBQ has been moved to Labor Day weekend, September 2nd. More information will follow shortly.

The Food Concessions were kept busy all night long with the temperature reaching near ninety degrees.
