Malta, New York – Only a month and half of racing remain at the Albany-Saratoga Speedway but “The Great Race Place” is not going to let the month of August go quietly.
The closest point battle is in the 4-Cylinder Dual Cam division where Steve Ryan and P.J. Bleau are tied atop the standings with 374 points each. Ben Grant sits just four points back. All other divisions find the point leader having a 20 point or more lead over second place. However, with just over a month left in the season any one of the point leaders could have a bad week or two and suddenly things tighten up.
The highlight of the month will be on Tuesday, August 15, as Brett Deyo’s “Short Track Super Series” fueled by VP makes its debut at the famed Malta oval with the running of the “Stampede at the Toga.” The race will be 50 laps for the Modifieds with a purse of over $25,000 spread throughout the field.
The unique program sponsored by Recovery Sports Grill will see the Modifieds with the option to use sail panels and track regulars also able to use Hoosier tires. Also on the card for the “Stampede at the Toga” will be the King of the Dirt Sportsman Series racing for a 30-lap $1,000 to win feature.
Sunday, August 6, Albany-Saratoga will host the first annual “Northeast Hot Rod and Muscle Car Madness with the gates opening at 10 a.m. There will be a Burnout competition as well as a Rev It Up contest and many other games, activities, and vendors. Portions of the proceeds from the event will go to benefit the Diabetes Foundation. Admission to the event is $6.00 for adults and $3.00 for children 11 and under.
The August 18 card will be “Autograph Night” featuring “The Featherfoot Pro Stock Series” and a makeup event for the 4-Cylinder division.
The month will close out on Friday, August 25, with “Back to School Kids Raffle Night.” The Mohawk Vintage Modifieds will be on hand. Also on the card will be the Sowle Trailer Repair Sportsman Series paying $1,000 to win and a makeup feature for the Sportsman division. Only one Sowle Trailer Repair Sportsman Series race remains and that will run the following week on September, 1.
