SELINSGROVE, PA –March 15, 2016 – Selinsgrove Speedway will kick off the 2016 season this Saturday, March 19, at 2 p.m. featuring the Ferris Mowers Race of Champions big block dirt modifieds in the annual Insinger Performance Products Icebreaker 40 paying $4,000 to win.
Pit gates will open at 11 a.m. and grandstand gates at 12 p.m. The rain date, if needed, will be Sunday, March 20.
The 360 and 410 sprint cars, super late models, pro stocks, and roadrunners will also receive track time for practice throughout the afternoon’s racing events.
Many of the northeast’s top modified teams are expected to converge at the Snyder County half-mile oval for the annual $20,000 event, which dates back to 2008 but has fallen victim to inclement weather the past three years.
Previous dirt modified winners at Selinsgrove Speedway include Dave Kelly (big block, 1982), Rick Laubauch (big block, 2008), Pat Ward (small block, 2009, 2010), Danny Johnson (big block, 2009, 2011), Matt Shepard (big block, 2010), Jeff Strunk (small block, 2011), Duane Howard (small block, 2012, 2013), Ryan Godown (big block, 2012), and Billy Pauch (big block, 2012).
The Race of Champions is a sanctioning body presenting modified and stock car racing on asphalt and dirt surfaces throughout the Northeast, with events in New York, Pennsylvania and New Jersey. The 66th annual Race of Champions weekend will take place in 2016 and is the second longest consecutive auto-racing event in North America, second only to the Indianapolis 500.
