OSWEGO, NY (March 5, 2018) – After a year off, the ‘Heat Race Challenge’ will return to Oswego Speedway’s Novelis Supermodified and Pathfinder Bank SBS divisions this season thanks to support from RJ Caruso Tax & Accounting in Oswego.
For each championship event in 2018, RJ Caruso will donate $50 to all Supermodified and Small Block Supermodified heat winners on any given night, making for a pretty hefty purse bonus should a driver continuously rack up heat race wins throughout the season.
“RJ Caruso Tax and Accounting continues to come through for Oswego Speedway and its dedicated drivers and teams,” said track PR director Camden Proud. “Heat racing is completely stacked in both divisions every single week. With the continuation of timed hot laps to set the heat race lineups coupled with a $50 bonus, preliminary action is going to keep our fans on the edge of their seats in 2018.”
The last time the ‘Heat Race Challenge’ was held back in 2016, Michael Muldoon dominated in the Supermodifieds with five heat race victories to go on to win a Shell Shock custom painted helmet at the conclusion of the season. Otto Sitterly, Dave Gruel, Brandon Bellinger and Keith Shampine were all second with three wins each.
In the Pathfinder Bank SBS division, Mike Bruce and Mike Bond tied as winners of the 2016 heat race challenge, also with five victories. Jack Patrick grabbed four wins to get second, while Anthony Losurdo, Dave Cliff, Jesse Bearup and Camden Proud all tied for third with three heat wins each.
Last season, Sitterly dominated heat race competition in the Supermodified division with five trips to victory lane while Bellinger was the only driver close with three victories. Bond’s four checkered flags beat out Patrick’s three to earn the most heat wins in the 2017 SBS ‘Road to the Championship.’
Oswego Speedway kicks off its 2018 season on Saturday, May 26 which will see the track’s 68th annual Opening Day set to include Jim Shampine Memorial Twin 50’s for the Novelis Supermodifieds plus the Tony White Memorial 35 for the Pathfinder Bank SBS. To purchase tickets, please call (315)-342-0646.
