RAIN FORCES CANCELLATION AT PENN CAN SPEEDWAY FRIDAY
Susquehanna, PA…Penn Can Speedway has been forced to cancel racing Friday because of the heavy rain that moved through the area Friday. Over one inch rain feel at the track flooding both ends of the speedway. Racing will resume next Friday with a full slate of racing featuring modifieds, 602 sportman, street stocks, factory stocks, four cylinders, and Xcel 600 modifieds.
“Even if it were to stop raining, the entire facility is saturated,” explains Reed Miller. “With a very unpromising afternoon forecast, we made the decision to cancel racing for this week. The spring has been unkind to area race tracks and Penn Can has not been spared. This cancellation makes two in the past three weeks. Hopefully the weather will change and we can get on with the 2014 season.”
After two weeks of racing Nick Rochinski holds the top spot in the modified division followed by Dan Pompey, rookie Alex Stanton, Billy Thornton, and Mike Schane. In the 602 sportsman division Dusty Barton holds a slim lead over Ryan Olsommer and Randy Gates. Steve Dienhardt leads the street stocks over Ryan Stone and Butch Green. Eric Beach leads the points in factory stock racing with Don Doster Jr on top of the four cylinders. Tim Frantz is the top man in Xcel 600 points.
The racing excitement heats up over the next few weeks with the first appearance of the season by the CRSA Sprint Cars on Friday May 30th. The annual “Clash at the Can” is also less than four weeks away. This mid- week special scheduled for Tuesday June 10th always attracts a stellar field of modifieds to the Susquehanna County oval. Joining the ROC Modifieds with be the first of two ROS Sportsman specials held at the track in 2014.
