We’re Back: Racing Action Returns To Georgetown Speedway; Open Practice Set For Tuesday, July 12; URC Sprint Car & Big-Block Doubleheader Approaching On Friday, July 22
GEORGETOWN, DE – We’re back!
After sitting idle since June 2, the roar of race engines returns to Delaware’s historic Georgetown Speedway in July. The half-mile oval’s gates will unlock twice in the next two weeks at the “special-events” schedule under the BD Motorsports Media LLC management team resumes.
On Tuesday, July 12, a special “test and tune” open practice session will be held. The practice gives race teams an ample opportunity to dial in their cars for upcoming events. All race vehicles are welcome. Gates in the pit area open at 5 p.m. Practice begins at 6:30 p.m. and continues for approximately three hours. Pit admission is $20 and grandstand admission will be free. The track will be prepared as it would for a race night. In the event of rain, the practice will be held on Wednesday (July 13).
Racing resumes on Friday, July 22 with a much anticipated doubleheader program.
For the first time since March, big-block/small-block Modifieds return to Georgetown in a 25-lap ‘Blast at the Beach’ qualifier event. The winner not only takes home $2,000, but will also earn a guaranteed redraw position in the Tuesday, Aug. 30 ‘Blast at the Beach’ Bob Hilbert Sportswear Short Track Super Series (STSS) Fueled By VP Velocita South Region finale.
The July 22 winner will not even have to run a heat race when the STSS returns to Georgetown. They will automatically transfer to the redraw.
Joining the Modifieds are the powerful United Racing Club (URC) 360 Sprint Cars in their second appearance of the season. Davie Franek of Wantage, N.J., won the first URC event of the season in May.
Also on the card are the Crate 602 Sportsman, Southern Delaware Vintage Cars, Delmarva Chargers and Delaware Super Trucks.
