WEST HAVEN, Vt. – Portland Glass of Rutland, Vt., has once again increased its support of the NASCAR Whelen All-American Series Mini Stock division at The Dirt Track at Devil’s Bowl Speedway. Portland Glass has created the late-summer “Portland Glass Mini Stock Sweepstakes” series, which is open to drivers from all tracks and will result in a big payday for one entry-level racer.
In anticipation of the open-competition season finale on Sunday, September 17 – which will pay up to $1,000 to the Mini Stock winner – nine guaranteed starting positions will be available through three qualifying races. Regularly scheduled Sunday night feature events on August 6, August 13, and August 27 will serve as the qualifying races; with double features on tap for August 6, only the first race will be part of the Sweepstakes.
Each of the qualifying races will award three guaranteed starting spots for the finale on September 17. In each race, the top two “Home Track” finishers who are ranked inside the Top 20 in Devil’s Bowl Dirt Track championship points prior to each race will secure their place in the finale, as well as one top-finishing “At Large” driver who is either ranked outside the Top 20 in points or competes regularly at another speedway.
“At Large” cars that do not fall within the Devil’s Bowl Speedway rulebook will be permitted to compete in the qualifying races, but must declare their “home” track prior to competition for inspection purposes and must adhere to that track’s rules. In order to protect the ongoing race for the season-long track championship, all “At Large” entries not following Devil’s Bowl rules will not earn championship points in the qualifying races.
The September 17 race will be run under a non-points “open competition” format with rules to be announced in the near future. Portland Glass has posted a healthy $750 purse for the winner, and drivers who participate in all three August qualifying events will be eligible to win an extra $250 for a whopping total of $1,000.
“We love the Mini Stocks, and Portland Glass is proud to support the Sweepstakes series at Devil’s Bowl,” Michael Clark, manager of Portland Glass in Rutland, Vt., said. “We enjoy having the opportunity to give one of the smaller teams some extra money at the end of the year, and the qualifying races should bring in some outsiders and make it fun for everyone.”
Devil’s Bowl Speedway revs back up on July 22-23 with racing on the 1/2-mile Asphalt Track on Saturday at 7:00 p.m. and action on the 3/10-mile Dirt Track on Sunday 6:00 p.m.
