Penn Can Speedway Gearing Up for First of Two Practices
SUSQUEHANNA, PA…Penn Can Speedway will open the 2015 racing season with two practice sessions leading up to the April 24th “Can Opener”. Practice will be held this Friday, April 10th at 6:00 p.m., with the second session slated for Friday, April 17th.
The extra harsh winter has been a challenge for all of the tracks in the northeast and Penn Can is no exception. The track crew has been working to get the track ready for this Friday’s practice. Just a couple of weeks ago there was as much as five feet of snow drifted against the walls on both ends of the track. The recent spell of warmer weather saw things melt off quickly with the drifts in turns one and two being the last to disappear.
“We are anxious and excited to get the 2015 racing season started”, said new Promoter Dan Harpell. “This winter has been tough but we are busy getting the track ready in hopes of holding practice this Friday”, he added.
The week leading up to Friday will determine whether or not the first practice will take place. Drivers and fans are encouraged to keep an eye on our Facebook page for updates. “In the event that we aren’t able to get in the first practice, we will more than likely reschedule it”, said Harpell. “We would really like to get two practice sessions in so we can get a handle on the track surface prior to the “Can Opener” on the 24th. We have also heard from drivers that share that sentiment as they would like a couple of opportunities to shake down their equipment in preparation for the opener”.
This Friday’s practice session will take place from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Pit gates will open at 5:00 p.m. Pit admission is $20. There will be no charge in the grandstands for the spectators.
Penn Can Speedway is located on Route 171 in Susquehanna, Pennsylvania. For further information go to our Facebook page, log onto our website at penncan.com or give us a call at 570-853-3434 at the track or 607-296-4265 at the office.
If all goes well, we will finally get to hear the roar of the engines beginning this Friday night, April 10th for our first of two practice sessions. At Penn Can Speedway there are “no smoke and mirrors, just great racing”.
