“CLASH AT THE CAN” SCHEDULED AT PENN CAN SPEEDWAY TUESDAY JUNE 1Oth

Susquehanna,PA…The highly anticipated and hugely popular “Clash at the Can”, one of Penn Can Speedway’s signature events, is less than one month away. The annual Race of Champions Modified Tour race annually draws one of the best fields of the year at the Susquehanna County oval. This year’s edition of the “Clash at the Can” sponsored by Don’s Automotive Mall and NEP Wireless will take place Tuesday June 10th. Joining the modifieds will be the Race of Champions Sportsman racers competing in their first of two races at the speedway in 2014.

The list of winners over the years in the annual Clash sports some of the best talent in modified racing. Last season Boyertown, Pennsylvania native Ryan Watt drove the Ron Roberts owned 14W to a thrilling win over former Penn Can track champion Mike Gular, Tim McCreadie, Dale Planck, and Daune Howard. The 2012 edition of the Clash also saw a large field tackling the three eighths mile oval. Danny Johnson battled Ryan Godown and Jeff Strunk for the win. In 2011 it was Billy Decker of Franklin, New York winning the event.

Early season racing at Penn Can has been hampered by the weather like most every other track in the area. The two early season events that were run saw mid-season track conditions. The track surface has been fast with plenty of bite producing exciting multi-groove action. Nick Rochinski and Kevin Hartnett have notch early season wins while the cars of Joey Colsten, Dan Pompey, Joey Grammes, Alan Rudalavage, Billy Thornton, and a host of other top Penn Can modified drivers will be set to defend their home turf in the sixty lap main event paying $5000 to win.

The Race of Champions Sportsman Tour will also be in competition running a twenty five lap main event paying $1000 to win. The last RoC Sportsman event held at Penn Can last season during the “King of the Can Weekend” was won by 602 Sportsman driver Ryan Olsommer who claimed the win over Alex Stanton in another 602 Crate Sportsman. This race should produce some great racing with the open sportsman battling the Penn Can Speedway 602 sportsman in this tour event.

Rules for the event will be posted on the Penn Can Speedway website and also on the race of Champions website. All drivers will draw for starting positions in their heats and the top qualifying cars will redraw for the feature. The top four cars not qualifying in the consi will run a four lap dash with the winner getting the last qualifying position.
Gates will open early for the mid week show. There will be activity behind the main grandstand with cars on display. The always popular Bob Hilbert Sportswear “Clash at the Can” event apparel will be on sale. There will be a DJ providing music, interviews, and prizes so you will want to be there early. 07 Racing Collectibles will also have their trailer at the speedway for this special event.
