image2Carlisle PA – May 10, 2016 – Rain once again played factor into this weekends racing plans. The term ‘April Showers, Bring May Flowers’ seems to be reversed.

After a long week of continuous rain, Williams Grove once again lost the battle to the elements. Track time is key with the World of Outlaws coming to town in two weeks. Next Friday the track will hold a ‘Tune Up’ special along with a full 358 program. Track will run WoO rules and formats for the 410’s in preparation for their May 20-21 date.

Brian Montieth leads Doug Esh by 10 points In the 410 division. Heading the 358 racks are Adrian Shaffer leading over Doug Hammaker by 30 points at Williams Grove.

MOODY & ROHRBAUGH SCORE WINS AT LINCOLN

Saturday night at Lincoln Speedway was racing weather. With a very heavy track from the weeks worth of rain, a large rain cell could have washed the program.

The skies then opened and rain saturated the Abbotstown facility. Close to a 30 minute rain delay took place. Track workers raced to continue to keep up with the track and preserve it. Fred Putney and crew did a tremendous job and we were back to racing.

Frankie Herr lead the first five laps until Kyle Moody tracked him down while rim riding. Moody battled a charging Robbie Kendall. Lap traffic came into play. Moody negotiated traffic and went on to score the victory.

“This was my type of race track tonight…I love a heavy race track like this. It was just fun out there.” Moody said in victory lane.

The 358 sprint cars then took to the track. Brian Allman and Kody Hartlaub paced the field to the green. Hartlaub quickly gained the lead and began gapping the field. Rohrbaugh moved up to second. On lap 6 Hartlaub slowed down the backstretch with a rear end gear failure. Rohrbaugh went on to score the victory.
HODNETT CONTINUES PACE AT PORT ROYAL

With Selinsgrove cancelling due to wet grounds Port Royal capitalized on it with a handful of 360 driver electing to switch over and run their 410’s for the night. 36 sprinters packed the back pit area.

THRILLING KEVIN GOBRECHT CLASSIC GOES TO LANCE DEWEASE

image5When Scott Gobrecht bought Susquehanna Speedway he had a vision. One to honor his brother, Kevin. Days after what would have been Kevin’s 47th birthday, the speedway held the Inaugural Kevin Gobrecht Classic. Time Trials, Dash, 30 lap feature and a increased purse. Also on the card was the 358 sprint cars partaking in their King of The 358’s series.

Many remember the thrilling show Lance Dewease and Greg Hodnett put on display back on April 10th. If you had money to bet, the bet was on those two. Lance Dewease broke the track record at 14.208. Record previously held by Ryan Smith at 14.256 in 2014.

Everyone was battling the three headed horse of Kreitz, Brown & Dewease. Almost could be a racing law firm. Together the three went on a tear winning their heat and also locked into the nights dash.

Greg Hodnett took the dash win placing himself on the pole.

The field was set for the 30 lap feature. Hodnett quickly checked out with Buckwalter and Dewease following.

Yellow came out with Cory Haas stopping in turn 1.

Steve Buckwalter faded with Brent Marks charging. Dewease moved to second. Dewease running the top side along with Hodnett. The top 4 began to hit heavy lap traffic.

Dewease moved to the middle of the track. There he began to make some progress. On lap 22 Dewease made is move, stealing the lead away from Hodnett. Dewease continued to lead until a yellow flew with 1 lap remaining. Hodnett had one chance to make a move, one final chance. Dewease had a slight advantage in 1 and 2 then Hodnett screamed back, Dewease slammed the door shut and crossed the line for his first career win under Don Kreitz Jr and his first win in 2016

Brent Marks, Aaron Ott and Buckwalter with Ryan Smith, Lucas Wolfe, Tim Shaffer, Bill Dietrich and Rodney Westhafer rounded out the top 10.

In 358 action Chad Trout scored the win during a feisty 25 lap battle with Doug Hammaker, Kevin Nouse and Jordan Givler.
