PJ OLIVER ROCKETS TO HIS FIRST CAREER 358 MODIFIED FEATURE VICTORY AT NEW EGYPT SPEEDWAY

New Egypt, NJ (July 2, 2017) – At New Egypt Speedway’s Firecracker 40 sponsored by 48 Barriers, PJ Oliver rocketed to his first career 358 Modified feature victory. Pat Wall took the checkered flag in the Hammer Sportsman main event. Ryan Godown scored the win in the Northeast Wingless Sprint Car feature. Due to rain that delayed the start of the program, the racing schedule was adjusted and only feature events took place.

As the Firecracker 40 got underway for the 358 Modifieds, Rocco Infante grabbed the lead with Doug Ostwald and PJ Oliver next in line. On lap five, Oliver moved past Ostwald to take over second. The top two of Infante and Oliver remained intact and in close quarters as they began to encounter traffic with fifteen circuits recorded. At the halfway point, Infante and Oliver were still in tight formation with Ostwald chasing them from third. On lap twenty-one, Infante bobbled in the fourth corner and Oliver jumped to the lead. Three tours later, Oliver hopped the cushion in turn one and Infante regained the lead. Quickly, Oliver regrouped and began to track down Infante. With ten laps left in the extra distance contest, Oliver used an inside move to return to the top running spot with Infante, Ostwald and Billy Pauch, Jr. in tow. On lap thirty four, Infante’s strong run ended as he slowed and pulled off the speedway. With Infante retired from the race, Ostwald was now in second but Pauch, Jr. was on his tail. On the thirty-seventh tour, the first yellow flag of the race appeared as Bryan Kuhl slowed in turn four and stopped on the frontstretch. When green flag racing resumed, Oliver kept his lead with Pauch, Jr. motoring past Ostwald for second. A slowing DJ Ruppert created the second and final caution period of the contest on lap thirty-eight. Following the restart, Oliver held off Pauch, Jr. in the last two revolutions to secure the win. Pauch, Jr. claimed the runner-up spot. A strong and late run gave Tad Cox athird place finish. Dominick Buffalino was fourth and John McClelland came home in fifth. Ostwald, Chad Barney, David Van Horn, Danny Bouc and Kevin Vaclavicek rounded out the top ten.

After taking the lead from Steve Desmelyk on the tenth circuit, Pat Wall repelled the challenge of Mike Lyons to take the checkered flag in the 25-lap Sportsman race. The win was Wall’s fourth career victory in the Sportsman division. With Lyons finishing second, TJ Lilly completed the contest in third. Billy Osmun was fourth and Matt Stangle claimed fifth.

In the non-stop 20-lap Northeast Wingless Sprint Car feature, Ryan Godown tallied his fifth win of the year in six events. Godown took the lead from Duane Nixon on lap five and sailed away from his rivals. Larry McVay recorded a career best second place finish in only his fourth race in the division. Lee Nardell was third with Lou Cicconi in fourth and Rich Mellor coming home in fifth.

The Street Stocks take center stage on Saturday, July 8 at New Egypt Speedway with the running of the 25-lap Mr. Street Stock Classic event. The 358 Modifieds and the Crate Modifieds round out the three division card. The grandstand and pit gates open at 4:00 p.m. Warm-ups get cranked up at 6:00 p.m. with the first green flag waving at 7:00 p.m. Admission to the grandstand is $20 for adults, $18 for seniors 65 and older, $10 for teens 12-15, $10 for military personal and their spouses with ID, and kids 11 & under are FREE. Pit admission is $30 with a New Egypt Speedway license and $40 with no license.
