30 358 Modifieds, 20 Sportsman, 14 Street Stocks, 7 Rookie Sportsman, and 2 North East Wingless Sprint Cars entered competition on Saturday.

It was nice to see Lou Cicconi back behind the wheel of a race car in competition for the first time since his back injury suffered at The Battle of Trenton Indoor Race in December, he would be a DNQ for the feature suffering brake problems.

John Pakenham also was a first time entrant for the season on Saturday, look for Pakenham to have his familiar 18 at NES weekly.

Both Andrew Bohn and Gary Butler were back for the first time since opening night. Bohn came home 14th while Butler pulled off early.

It was the first night of competition for the Second Annual May Modified Madness Series, the biggest upset in the first round was Rocco Infante knocking out Sammy Piazza.

Third generation racer Billy Osmun picked up his first career HCI/Metal Fab Rookie Sportsman feature win and backed it up with a solid top-10 later on in the evening.

After a plague of motor problems to start the season off Johnny Cornell finally started to shake the monkey off his back by coming home second in the second Sportsman feature on Saturday night.

358 Modified Patrick Gold qualified for his feature of the season Saturday and would end up 21st in the final run down.

PJ Oliver looked impressive leading the first thirteen laps of Saturday night’s Modified feature before being passed by eventual winner Ryan Godown.

Godown would go on and dedicate the win to a young fan in attendance that is battling cancer.

David VanHorn’s drive from his 22nd starting spot was nothing short of impressive. VanHorn suffered a broken hub in his heat race relegating him to the B-Main.

2014 Street Stock Champion Bill Liedtka suffered the same fate (broken hub) in the first Street Stock feature and was unable to start the second.

Both John McClelland and Rocco Infante had their best runs in 2015 to date on Saturday. McClelland was fifth and Infante was third.

Billy Pauch’s eighth to the lead in one lap run during his heat race was nothing short of impressive.

Jimmy Horton was back in action a week after blowing a motor down at Bridgeport. The motor in Horton’s car was on loan from Jimmy Blewett

The surface on Saturday was by far the best it has been all year, multiple grooves and no dust whatsoever along with no tire wear either.
