New Egypt Speedway Notebook 4/18

By: Pete MacDonald

29 358 Modifieds, 29 Crate Modifieds, 13 Street Stocks, 6 Rookie Sportsman, and 2 NorthEast Wingless Sprint Cars entered the pit area on Saturday night.

Ryan Godown is flat dominant this year, people can say what they want about he’s cheating this and he’s cheating that, he is just on his game this year. Rewind the calendar 365 days after Billy Pauch won the first three races of the season and people were saying the same thing. Ryan just has it together so far for 2015.

There is a serious lack of respect going on in the 358 Modified field at New Egypt . I stood in turn two for the feature and saw just about every car use the car on the outside of them as a brake going into turn one, from seasoned veterans to rookies, they ALL did it. Total lack of respect for one another.

Two Talladega-style big wrecks marred the 358 Modified feature on Saturday night collecting a good amount of the field in both. Most of the cars were able to continue.

Billy Pauch admitted that watching YouTube videos from Grandview Speedway helped him learn to maneuver through multi car incidents such as the ones we had on Saturday.

Chad Barney was the last car to transfer from the B-Main on Saturday night and ended up coming home with a career best Eighth-place finish in Saturday night’s 358 Modified feature.

Sammy Piazza has three straight fifth place finishes to start 2015 aboard his family owned 29.

Brandon Grosso continues to impress the heck out of me. He has led all three nights he’s been out in both his Crate Modified and Open Sportsman. This Saturday he was leading with just three laps to go and made contact with Matt Carman sending them both to the rear.

The new two-feature format when there is less than 24 cars is off to a good start. The first Street Stock feature just felt like it had more energy to it than normal.

Billy Pauch Jr. and Neal Williams put on a crowd pleasing dual in a 10 lap exhibition of the NorthEast Wingless Sprint Cars swapping the lead many times throughout the race. The class has a lot of potential once more cars start showing up, I liked it and I am not a fan of wingless racing for the most part.

Couldn’t ask for better weather on Saturday as I walked around in a T-Shirt all night.
