I’ve been saying this for a while now, maybe this has been the case for a long time now, maybe I’m noticing it more than ever, but it’s really bothering me more and more. How ridiculous is it that how far you go in this sport depends on how much money you can bring to the table. Maybe this is one of the reasons that the sport is suffering, the product is watered down between drivers that can legitimately  drive and kids that are just rich looking for a way to become a race car driver.

Long gone are the days where drivers went to car owners and said this is how many wins and championships I have maybe we can put something together to have me drive your stuff. Now you have daddies going to prospective car owners with a blank check book and ask what is it going to take to put my kid in your car. A Camping World Truck, just for ONE race depending on the truck can cost anywhere from $30,000 to $100,000 and the truck you spend $100,000 on I’m pretty sure a monkey can finish in the Top-10 with it. And it’s not just a problem in NASCAR it’s a problem across the entire sport from Go-Karts to Sprint Cars to IndyCar’s. It seems that no one is looking at driver’s anymore unless you are “funded”.

Then you have the car owners that rely on the rich daddies let’s say in ARCA where you get someone to rent a car out and it shows up to the race track and its nothing but junk, IF the car runs at all. I mean, don’t these people look into what they’re investing in before cutting a check? It’s a problem that doesn’t seem like it’s going away anytime soon.

Don’t get me wrong, I’m totally ok with talented drivers being backed by some kind of money perfect example being Kyle Larson, but when you’re one of these kids can’t drive a hot nail into a snow bank and you do nothing but tear stuff up week in and week out something needs to be said and done.
