FULTON, NY – July 8, 2017 – Race teams and fans showed up Saturday night at the Fulton Speedway in large numbers with 110 plus race cars in the pits. The majority of those cars came down trackside for McDonald’s® Restaurants Family Autograph night.
Victories on the speedway were taken by Mike Bowman (Modifieds) Todd Root & Nate Higgins (Sportsman) Jason Parkhurst (Late Models) Jake Davis & Matthew Becker (Novice Sportsman) Dakota Bechler (4-Cylinders).
In the 35 lap Tracey Road Equipment Big Block Modified feature Ryan Jordan and Cody Graham would pace the field down to the green with Graham leading the opening lap and Jordan the next go around.
With 10 laps complete Jordan, Mike Bowman and Matt Hulsizer were in a three-car breakaway race at the front of the field. One more circuit around Bowman would use a power move on the high side of the speedway to be scored the new leader.
At the 15-lap point Bowman, still running the top, opened a quarter of a straight away lead while starting to put cars a lap down. Track rookie Jordan, who was running a small block while looking to get his big block motor repaired, kept Bowman in sight. Hulsizer and Hile were still in contention running in the top-five.
Lap 20 and still caution free, Bowman was on cruise control a half a straightaway ahead of Jordan who ran alone in second. Hulsizer, Hile and Larry Wight who started 18th battled for third through fifth.
With 10 laps to go Bowman had his lead cut in half as Jordan was starting to close in to set up a battle for the race win. Hulsizer, Hile and Wight still showed on the scoring tower in the top-five.
With 5 laps to go the intensity got turned up as Ryan Jordan was all over the back bumper of Mike Bowman and found a way by to take the lead. One lap later Bowman was able to wrestle the lead back. Over the final laps Bowman switched lanes from where he was running and cruised first under the checkers. Ryan Jordan impressed with second followed by Chris Hile, Larry Wight and Matt Hulsizer completed the top five.
An impressive 44 SUNY Canton Sportsman signed into the pits once again having two full points, full purse 25 lap features.
In the first feature Ryan Hatherill would lead the opening two laps before Chris Mackey took over the top spot while the racing for third on back was two and three wide.
With 10 laps complete Mackey still showed the way but he had Todd Root all over his back bumper from his eighth starting spot. Mike Phelps and Corey Barker were locked in their own tight race as they closed on the top two.
On lap 14 Root used a power move off turn two to blow by Mackey and into the lead.
A yellow on lap 20 would erase Root’s lead setting up a 5-lap dash to the checkers. Over the final laps Chris Mackey threw everything he had at Todd Root, Root was too quick on the top side and was first under the checkers. Chris Mackey, Corey Barker, Mike Phelps and Billy Clark Jr. finished second through fifth.
In the second 25 lap feature Nate Higgins would jump out to the early lead, setting a quick pace opening a ten-car length advantage.
At the 10-lap point Higgins bolted out to a full straightaway lead. Jeremy Dygert, Nick Krause, Mike Stanton Jr. and Willy Decker Jr. were locked into a battle for second through fifth.
Higgins opened an almost 4 second lead with 10 laps to go. Dygert, Krause, Stanton and Decker still showed in the top-five.
Over the final laps and no yellows to tighten the field up Nate Higgins cruised to his first ever SUNY Canton Sportsman win. Jeremy Dygert, Nick Krause, Glenn Forward and Willy Decker Jr. finished second through fifth.
In the caution-free Billy Whittaker Cars & Trux Late Model feature Bret Belden bolted out to a half a straightaway lead by lap 5. Jason Occhino and Jason Parkhurst were in a tight fight for second and third with Chris Fleming and Steve Coit running in the top-five.
At the halfway point Belden still led as Parkhurst was quickly closing on Belden. Behind the top two, Fleming, Occhino and Chad Homan showed third through fifth on the scoring tower.
On lap 13 Parkhurst was all over the back-bumper of Belden. One lap later the two came across the line side by side with Parkhurst having a slight advantage. Over the final laps Jason Parkhurst pulled out the victory, his third of the season. Bret Belden, Chris Fleming, Chad Homan and Jason Occhino finished second through fifth.
In the first 15 lap E&V Energy Novice Sportsman feature Jake Davis jumped out to the early lead opening a 3.7 second lead before a yellow on lap 7 erased his lead.
When the green came back out and for the rest of the distance Davis was the class of the field picking up the popular win. Jimmy Moyer, Robert Gage, Dan Dupra and Wesley Hayes finished second through fifth.
In the second 15 lap E&V Energy Novice Sportsman feature Kyle Rood jumped out to the early lead, opening a big lead in the early laps.
On lap 7 Tom Juno ran down Rood to take the lead while the racing behind the top two was tight for positions.
With Juno in the lead Matthew Becker was working his way to the front running the top side of the speedway. On lap 11 Becker used that top side to drive by Juno and into lead.
Over the remaining laps Becker and Juno would put on a show swapping the lead back and forth with Becker taking the narrow 0.129 of a second win. Jake Petit, Kearra Backus and Rachel Zacharias finished third through fifth.
Quinn Wallis would lead the opening 9 laps of the 15 lap JB Logging & Firewood 4-Cylinder feature. On lap 10 in turn two Wallis bobbled in traffic letting Dakota Bechler get by. Over the final laps Bechler and Wallis put on a show with Bechler winning by a narrow half a car length over Wallis. Ray Bechler, Skip DeGroff and Evan Wright finished third through fifth.
