After Two Straight Weeks Of Rain, Thunder Mountain Speedway Ready To Return To Action On Memorial Day Weekend

CENTER LISLE, NY- May 24, 2016- Thunder Mountain Speedway hopes to provide the cure for two consecutive rained-out events this weekend.
The three-eighths-mile located just outside of Whitney Point, N.Y., hosts two big days of action this Saturday and Sunday, May 28-29 as part of the ‘Lightning on the Mountain’ Memorial Day weekend festivities.
On Saturday (May 28), the lightning-fast Lucas Oil Empire Super Sprints (ESS) 360 Sprint Cars invade Thunder Mountain for the first time this season. ESS will take part in a 25-lap event offering $3,000 to win and $300 to take the green flag! Past ESS winners on the Mountain include Curt Michael (2015) and Stewart Friesen (2014).
The CRSA 305 Sprint Cars will also visit as companions to their powerful ESS brethren.
Weekly divisions on the card will be Open Sportsman, Crate 602 Sportsman, Rookie Sportsman, Street Stocks, XCel 600 Modifieds & FWD Four Cylinders. Any Modifieds on hand will be granted practice time.
Gates open at 3 p.m. Sprint Car heat in the motors will take place at 6 p.m. Racing gets underway at 7 p.m.
Saturday adult grandstand admission is $16. Seniors (ages 65 and over) pay $14, Students (ages 10-17) pay $12 and Kids 9 and under are FREE. Pit admission is $30 with no license required.
On Sunday (May 29), attention turns to the visiting Bob Hilbert Sportswear Short Track Super Series (STSS) Fueled By VP presented by Waymart Building Center of Waymart, Pa., and Sharkey’s Fuels of South Canaan, Pa.
The STSS big-block/small-block Modifieds battle for 50 laps with nearly $26,000 on the line: $5,000 to win, $1,000 to finish 10th and $400 to take the green flag plus lap money, contingency awards and bonuses. This event is Race No. 3 of the Halmar International North Region.
Last year, Thunder Mountain hosted a pair of STSS events. Brian Malcolm of Lake Ariel, Pa., was the June ‘Lightning on the Mountain’ winner – the most prolific win of his career – and Sprakers, N.Y., driver Stewart Friesen topped the Wade Decker Memorial run in September.
The May 29 program will include the second round of the first-year STSS Open Sportsman circuit. The series made its debut at Pa.’s Big Diamond Speedway May 17 with New Jersey’s Brandon Grosso scoring the victory. The STSS Open Sportsman race 25 laps for a $1,000 winner’s share on the Mountain.
Also on the card are the Fight Night Street Stocks in the Chad Sindoni Memorial, a race celebrating the life of a former full-fender racer who lost his life earlier this year, and the XCel 600 Modifieds in a “tour race” special.
Show-up points (25) will be awarded to those participating in the Modified, Open Sportsman and Street Stock events Sunday.
On Sunday, May 29, all gates will open at 3 p.m. Hot laps get underway at 6 p.m. and racing begins promptly at 7 p.m.
