LANCASTER, N.Y. (June 17, 2018) – Chuck Hossfeld of Ransomville, N.Y. captured the Joe Reilly Sportsman Summer Slam 75 on Saturday night at Lancaster National Speedway. It was Hossfeld’s second-straight win in the event that honors the memory of championship winning crew chief, Joe Reilly.

In additional X-Press Signs Stock Car Series action, Andy Cryan of Buffalo won his third-straight Advance Auto Parts Street Stock feature. Dan Dressel of Clarence, N.Y. scored his second win of the season in the Roaming Buffalo 4-Cylinders. Kyle Hutchinson of E. Aurora, N.Y. won the NYPA TQ Midget feature.

Twenty-three VP Racing Fuels Sportsman Modifieds were on hand for the third edition of the Joe Reilly Sportsman Summer Slam. Tommy Catalano turned a heat race win into the pole position for the 75-lap feature. He shared the front row with his mother, Amy, with his brother, Timmy, starting in the fourth position. Patrick Emerling was the outsider in the family reunion at the front of the starting grid as he lined up third after also winning his heat race.

Hossfeld also won his qualifier, but luck was not on his side in the draw. The defending race winner drew 12th, and also faced an electrical issue before the start of the feature.

The green flag waved with Tommy Catalano taking the early lead, but a spin by Joe Evans brought out the yellow flag on lap two. Emerling passed Amy Catalano for second place after the restart with Timmy Catalano and Jake Vernon filling out the top five early on.

Hossfeld didn’t waste any time moving his way through the field. He entered the top five by lap six, and took over third on lap 10. Hossfeld then passed Tommy Catalano on lap 14 to move into the runner-up position.

The caution flag was displayed for a second time on lap 23 for a spin by Dave Kozlowski. The race briefly restarted, but a spin by Mike Ramos off of turn four halted things again. Amy Catalano took damage in the aftermath, but was able to return.

Hossfeld saw this as his opportunity as he was able to get by Emerling to take the lead shortly after the restart on lap 24. Hossfeld and Emerling pulled away from the pack during a 20-lap green flag run. They pulled away by almost a straightaway over Tommy Catalano. A spin by Tony Carbone on lap 44 bunched the field back up again.

The second half of the race continued with Emerling chasing Hossfeld. Defending track champion Shawn Nye waged a fierce battle with Timmy Catalano for fourth place throughout the middle portion of the race. Nye eventually passed both Timmy and Tommy Catalano to move up to third place by lap 62.

Emerling kept Hossfeld within reach during the final laps, but could not get past the back bumper of the leader. Hossfeld held on for his first win of 2018 over Emerling. Owen Bednasz finished third after Nye dropped out of the race mechanical issues with five laps to go. Tommy and Timmy Catalano rounded out the top five.

Andy Cryan kept his hot streak going in the Advance Auto Parts Street Stocks with his third win in a row. Cryan started seventh for the 25-lap feature and methodically worked his way to the front of the field. He passed Ken Maltby for third on lap eight and slid by Mark Hoch for second on lap 10.

On lap 12, Cryan challenged Dave Vona for the lead. Vona went up high to try and block Cryan, but he went low and was able to pass Vona for the lead. Cryan then held off a hard-charging Max Northem in the closing laps to pick up his third win a row.

Dan Dressel passed Joe Brunka on lap five of the Roaming Buffalo 4-Cylinder to pick up his second win of the season. Dressel held on for the final 20 laps to score the win. Jason Anasiewicz survived a rough and tumble feature to finish second. Tim Durfy, Dave Brunka and Joe Brunka rounded out the five.

Kyle Hutchinson led all 20 laps of the NYPA TQ Midget feature for his second win of the weekend. The appearance by the NYPA TQs was their first of 2018 at Lancaster. Dave Wollaber, AJ Hessler, Vinny Christiano, Jr. and Andy Nye filled out the top five.

The X-Press Signs Stock Car Series is off next weekend for the Niagara Swap Meet and Car Show. The next event is Thursday, June 28 for the fourth annual Ol’ Boy Cup 60 for the Race of Champions Modified Series. The RoC Super Stocks, Street Stocks and 4-Cylinders are also on the race card.
