Four pick up first wins at 34 Raceway

WEST BURLINGTON, IA (7-25-15) –
Racing action at 34 Raceway Saturday, July 25 saw four racers getting their first wins the season at the 3/8 mile on another HOT summer night. Picking up wins for the first time were Nick Guernsey, Burlington (305 sprints) Jerrod Nichols, Stronghurst, Il., (4 cylinders), Tom Bowling, Danville (IMCA stock cars) and Max Pozsgai, Lincoln, Il (IMRA Midgets). Both Tyler Glass, Cedar Rapids (IMCA Modifieds) and Sean Wyett, Danville (IMCA Sport Mods) won their second features of the year.
Coming up next week, Saturday, August 1 will be Coors Light Night and the Chad Gall Memorial Race with action from the W.T. Gabeline and Sons Truck 305 Sprints, Ryner Transportation IMCA Modifieds, Casebine Credit Union IMCA Sport Mods, Pepsi IMCA Stock Cars, 34 Raceway 4 Cylinders and the STARS Mod Lites return.
The first feature of the night saw Sean Wyett, Danville, getting his second IMCA Sport Mod feature win this season coming of a win last week. Wyett took the lead from Dakota Simmons on lap three of their fifteen lap race. Wyett held a strong lead for the next ten laps before a caution came out on lap fourteen. Joey Gower jumped to the lead on the restart on lap fourteen but Wyett would get his lead back passing Gower on the front stretch as they headed for the checkered flag to pick up the win. Brett Timmerman, Simmons and Wesley Mayfield rounded out the top five. With the point season winding down, Gower leads the point race with 262 points. Not far behind Gower are Austen Becerra 253 points followed by Brett Timmerman’s 251 and Wyetts 250.
The IMRA Midget class continues to grow with 18 drivers competing. Getting his first win at 34 Raceway was Max Pozsgai, Lincoln, Il. After battling for the lead with Aaron Hull, Pozsgai was finally able to get by Hull on lap sixteen of the twenty lap race and was able to hold on for the win. Hull followed to finish second and not far behind were Aaron Schuck and Brad Greenup.
The 4 Cylinders were up next with Jerrod Nichols, Stronghurst, Il., getting his first ever feature win. Ron Kibbe and Darin Smith battled for the lead with Kibbe leading the battle until lap eight. The two cars got together on the front stretch squeezing Smith into the front stretch waland taking Smith out of the action. Kibble would be sent to the rear of the field for being involved. When racing resumed Jerrod Nichols would take over the lead and had to hold off challenges from Kimberly Abbot for the remaining three laps. The two crossed the finish line side by side with Nichols edging out Abbot for the win. Bryan Shipley, Bryerson Tharp and Duane Dixon rounded out the top five. Abbot holds a narrow 2 point lead over Nichols in the point race 264 to 262. Kibbe follows with 255.
Nick Guernsey, Burlington, would get his first 305 Sprint feature win in the sixteen car 305 Sprint feature. Guernsey would take the lead from Nathan Murders on lap eight of the twenty lap feature working to stay ahead of Harold Pohren. The two would pull away from the field until a second of two yellow flags came out on lap eighteen. With three laps to go Guernsey would hold his lead as Ryan Jamison moves into the second spot. Guernsey would continue his run and pull away slightly to take the win. Jamison, John Schulz, Pohren and Justin Newberry rounded out the top five. Newberry, in his final season of racing, leads the point race with 260 followed by Cody Wehrle with 252.
Tyler Glass makes the trip to 34 Raceway from Cedar Rapids. This week the ride home was a celebration after Glass picked up his second IMCA Modified feature win this season . Glass took the lead from Dustin Smith on a restart following a yellow flag on lap nine and would pull away from the field. Glass led the pack for the next seven laps before the third of three yellow flags came out on lap eighteen of the twenty lapper. Glass was able to pull away again to take the win by several car lengths. Smith would follow to finish second with Jeff Waterman, Blake Woodruff and Bill Roberts rounding out the top five. Waterman leads the point race with 256 points over Glass with 246.
The final feature of the night saw Tom Bowling picking up his first win of the season in the IMCA Stock Car feature. John Brockway took the early lead in the twenty lap feature holding off challenges from John Oliver, Jr. for the first four laps. Oliver got by Brockway on lap five holding off challenges from Brockway and then Jason Cook for the next six laps. Bowling would move into the second spot on lap fourteen as the top five put on a show for the fans. With Oliver in the lead, Bowling was closing in using the high side of the track. With three laps to go, Bowling would get by Oliver for the lead and go on to get his first stock car feature win this season. Oliver, Jason Cook, Shane Watts and Nathan Wood followed to round out the top five. A tight race for the points championship sees Shane Watts in the lead with 256 points followed by Bowling 248, Oliver 247, Wenig 244, Raker 240 and Devon Timmerman 239
