DRAYTON DRIVES TO A WIN IN THE OPENING EVENT OF THE MODIFIED 811 DIG SAFE SERIES AT BRIDGEPORT SPEEDWAY

Sicklerville, NJ (April 25, 2015) – Bob Drayton drove his Small Block Modified to a win in the opening event of the Modified 811 Dig Safe Series on the quarter mile track at Bridgeport Speedway.

Drayton, who drew the pole in the 25-lap feature, led every step of the way. The main event was slowed by only two caution periods. When the green flag waved to start the feature race, a ten car tangle forced the retirement of competitors Corey Andersen and Jack Swain. After a clean restart, Drayton took the lead with Ron Roberts, Jimmy Horton and Lou Cicconi in pursuit. Drayton was setting a fast pace and began to enter traffic with six laps recorded. By the eleventh circuit, Drayton encountered additional congestion but was able to clear the traffic at the halfway mark of the main event. Behind the leader, a good battle for second was developing with Roberts, Horton and Cicconi in close quarters. Drayton had a large advantage over the field dissipate as the final yellow flag of the race waved for Cicconi and his broken shock tower on the seventeenth circuit. When green flag racing resumed, Drayton stayed in front with Roberts, Horton, Richie Pratt, Jr. and Johnny Cornell next in line. Again, the eventual winner began to pull away from his foes. With three laps remaining, Drayton was slowed by traffic and Roberts inched closer to the leader. Within two revolutions, Drayton was able to drive through the congestion to set a clear path in the remaining circuits. When the checkered flag waved, it was Drayton in front for his second career victory on the quarter mile at Bridgeport Speedway. Previously, he had won the Rock and Roll 33 on October 3, 2014. Roberts ran a strong race and took the runner-up position. In his first start on the quarter mile, Jimmy Horton, who has 128 wins on the main track at Bridgeport Speedway, came home in third place. Johnny Cornell was fourth with Richie Pratt, Jr. taking fifth. Drayton and Cicconi captured the qualifying events. With a fifth place finish, Pratt, Jr. went home with a wheel from Vahlco Racing Wheels. Matt Hawkins, who was running in third place in his heat race until his motor expired, received the Hard Luck Award from S&D Bodyline.

The next event in the five race Modified 811 Dig Safe Series at Bridgeport Speedway is set for Friday, May 15. The final three contests will take place on June 12, July 10 and July 31. The champion of the Modified 811 Dig Safe Series will be awarded a minimum of $1,000.  The driver that finishes in second will take home at least $500 while a minimum of $250 will go to the third place finisher in the point standings. In addition, all drivers that compete in all five contests but who finish out of the top five in points will be given perfect attendance bonus checks.
