Mandee Pauch Relations – July 31, 2017 – Peter Britten capped off three nights of racing in five days and scored himself three fourth-place finishes at three different tracks.

“Apparently the number four was my number for the week,” laughed Britten.

Britten’s week opened up on Tuesday at Autodrome Granby in Granby, Quebec, Canada with the Super DIRTcar Series.

Britten had a good time in his time trial group, which set him up third for the heat race. Britten finished where he started, third.

“Granby is a tricky track to drive,” he said. “There’s nothing else you can compare racing Granby to. It’s a challenge racing up there but that makes it interesting and fun at the same time.”

Britten started on the inside of the fourth row for the 100-lap main event.

“We had a pretty good car, especially the last half of the race,” Britten noted. “We were too tight at the start of the feature. We held on and made some moves toward the end of the race.”

Britten capped off the night with a fourth-place finish in his No.21a Big Block Modified.

Wednesday evening the Series made their first trip of the year to Autodrome Drummond in Drummondville, Quebec, Canada.

Britten timed fastest in his group, placing him on the pole for the heat race.

“We won the heat pretty convincingly which was good.”

Britten pulled the No.5 during the redraw, which started him fifth in the 100-lap main event.

“I don’t think we really had that great of a racecar,” he said. “We were a little off on setup.”

Britten knew the track was going to lay rubber during the feature but wasn’t sure when so they decided to set the car up a little on the free side.

“It was a little bit of a challenge,” he said. “The start of the race I was trying to hold on but the middle part of the race was the struggle for me when the track made its transition to rubber. Once the track started to lock down I was able to make a few moves.”

Britten had an up and down race where he fell back to eighth but was able to work his way back up to fourth.

“We were able to make some moves before the rubber got too intense where everyone was a one lane freight train. The last 15 laps it was locked down to the bottom. Unfortunately that’s how it goes sometimes.”

Britten crossed the line in fourth; picking up his fifth top-five finish with the Series.

“Keeping the top fives rolling for a little team like myself is encouraging,” he said. “The prize money helps keep the team rolling. We just have to keep plugging away.”

Britten closed out his week Friday evening at Albany-Saratoga in Malta, N.Y.

Britten ran into some unforeseen issues early in the night.

“Our setup was a little off in the heat race and we had a slight vibration in the driveline which progressively got worse,” he said. “That had us really struggling in the heat race.”

Britten started eighth in his heat race and finished seventh.

“After the heat we found the problem,” he said. “The yoke on the back of the transmission was splitting into two so we had to thrash on that and work on the setup. Luckily we were able to get that done in time. The crew did an awesome job.”

Due to his heat race finish Britten rolled out deep in the main event, 22nd.

“It was a little slow going at the start of the race,” he said. “As the race went on about halfway through, some guys started to fade. I was able to start moving through with a little more ease.”

Britten managed to work his way through the field and get all the way up to third until he made contact with the front stretch wall.

“I was probably trying a little bit too hard,” mentioned Britten. “I don’t know exactly what we broke but something wasn’t right after that. The rear end wouldn’t rotate over properly at the end of the race.”

Britten went off to collect his third fourth-place finish of the week.

“We had another good fourth place finish and were able to extend the point lead,” he said. “We really want to get a win. We’re more than capable but we keep fighting issues, which give us a pretty deep starting spot. We keep managing to dig out of it but getting a win that far back is challenging.”

The Super DIRTcar Series is off this week and will be back in action on Monday at Merrittville Speedway and Tuesday at Ransomville Speedway. Britten’s only race this week will be at Albany-Saratoga Friday night.
