Bridgeport Speedway Doug Hoffman Memorial Notebook – By: Pete MacDonald

I made a last second decision to attend Bridgeport Speedway’s Doug Hoffman Memorial on Easter Sunday, I figured while both dirt tracks in New Jersey are running on Saturday and Sunday might as well support them.

26 Modifieds, 17 Sportsman, and 10 Street Stocks were in the pit area on a gorgeous Easter Sunday afternoon. I really thought with it being a Race of Champions event more modifieds would have showed up but after all it was Easter.DSC_0155

Jimmy Horton was seen walking around the pit area without a ride, he hung around the Jimmy Blewett camp most of the day.

It was the first official race on the new surface at Bridgeport which seemed to be pretty good, at least from the infield. “It’ll be racy once the figure it out” said third place finishing Dominick Buffalino.

Duane Howard, Rick Laubach, and Dominick Buffalino won the three heats for the Modifieds with Anthony Perrego winning the Consolation event.

Wade Hendrickson was 12th fastest in practice, but his 99 never made the call for his heat race or consolation.

DCIM100GOPROStewart Friesen had them covered in the Atlas Paving 66 until a right front flat on Lap 32 forced him pit side, Friesen would fight back to fifth before getting another flat late in the going relegating him to a ninth place finish.

Erick Rudolph had trouble keeping his car running and was pushed to the pit area before the feature took the green. Rudolph was driving the Mike Iles owned 711.

Eventual winner Ryan Godown said he was having carburetor problems throughout the feature on Sunday. As soon as the car leveled out on the straightaway the motor sounded like it was breaking up.

“I’ve lost them like that before and it’s about time I got one back, I’ll take them however I can get them” said Ryan Godown about when Friesen’s tire went down giving him the lead with twelve to go.

Ryan Anderson had a very impressive run coming home fourth at races end.DSC_0190

Bridgeport Speedway returns to action this coming Sunday with Big Block Modifieds, URC Sprint Cars, Sportsman and Outlaw Stocks.
