New Egypt, NJ – Plumsteadville, PA’s Danny Bouc picked up his first New Egypt Speedway 358 Modified win of 2017 on Saturday in the “Remember Our Veterans 40”. Bouc started 18th in the 40-Lap affair.
“We’ve been working real hard, all these second’s lately have been really killing me, I love running up front but I come here to win”, said Bouc in Victory Lane on Saturday night.
Jackson, NJ’s Steve Davis led the 23 car field to the green but the red flag would come unfurled with under a lap completed when Dominick Buffalino, Doug Ostwald and PJ Oliver tangled coming off of Turn-4 with Oliver ending up on his roof. Oliver would get the car repaired under red and would rejoin the field.
Davis would continue to lead when the yellow flag would fly again on lap five when Chad Barney and Tad Cox tangled in-between turns three and four collecting Brandon Grosso, Kevin Vaclavicek and Dominick Buffalino in the process.
Bouc would enter the Top-3 on lap nine but the yellow would fly again when Ryan Godown suffered a Left-Rear flat tire aboard his No. 66 machine. Bouc’s charge to the front would finally pay off as he took the lead from Davis on the following restart with an outside pass with David VanHorn in tow. Bouc would click off laps at a rapid pace until Lap 30 when the yellow flag would again fly so that drivers can refuel their cars as they were told at the drivers meeting earlier on in the night. On the ensuing restart Bouc would pull away again with VanHorn in hot pursuit until the final yellow of the race would fly on Lap 32 when VanHorn suffered an electrical problem and came to a stop on the racing surface.
Bouc would set sail after the restart and pull away to his first win of 2017 and his sixth career New Egypt Speedway Modified victory. Dominick Buffalino would rebound to finish second, Ryan Godown came back through to finish fourth while Billy Pauch Jr. and John McClelland rounded out the Top-5.
Ryan Godown took his new ride owned by Karl Freyer to his third consecutive win in the Northeast Wingless Sprint Cars with a final lap pass of sophomore driver Brian Spencer. Godown from the back would put on a crowd-pleasing dual with Lou Cicconi with Godown finally gaining the upper advantage on Lap 15. Once Godown cleared Cicconi he would chase Spencer down over the final five laps finally taking the lead as the field came off of turn two, Spencer threw everything he had at Godown through three and four but it would be to no avail as Godown would take the checkered. Spencer would hold on for second, defending champion Bobby Butler would come home third, Lee Nardelli would be fourth and Rich Mellor completed the Top-5.
Mike Lyons returned to New Egypt Speedway’s Victory Lane for the first time in a long time on Saturday night in the Hammer Sportsman division. It was a welcomed sight to see Lyons, who sat out the entire 2016 season with health concerns park his immaculate looking No. 21L in Victory Lane again.
Lyons who would start fourth in Saturday’s feature event quickly got to the lead on lap two but would be stalked constantly by young Billy Osmun III aboard the Norcia No. 81.
The biggest wreck of the evening would occur on Lap five of the Sportsman feature when several cars collided off of turn two sending JT Trstensky rolling over twice collecting Pat Wall, Bob Lineman Jr., and Jimmy Amato who also rolled over on his side. All drivers would be ok.
On the restart Lyons and Osmun both pulled away from the rest of the field as the laps clicked off but Osmun was never able to mount a challenge to Lyons who would pick up his 24th Career New Egypt Speedway Sportsman victory. Osmun would chase him finishing second with JR Fulper, Matt Stangle and Tom Tanner completing The Top-5.
David “Rowdy” Burns and Rob Mancini would pick up victories in the Lyons Construction/Metal Fab Rookie Sportsman division in their Twin 8-Lap Feature events.
