Anticipation: Delaware International Speedway ‘Diamond State 50’ Will Wait One More Day; Predicted Rain Pushes Short Track Super Series Fueled By Hi-Tek Event to WEDNESDAY, AUGUST 5

DELMAR, DE – The 10-year wait for the return of the ‘Diamond State 50’ has been extended by one more day.

Due to a forecast of 60 percent chance of rain and severe thunderstorms for Tuesday afternoon/evening, Delaware International Speedway promoter Charlie Cathell and Short Track Super Series Fueled By Hi-Tek organizer Brett Deyo have collectively postponed the ‘Diamond State 50’ from its original Tuesday date to Wednesday, August 5.

The Wednesday forecast per all the major weather outlets shows a picture-perfect day with zero chance of rain.

“This event calls for our racers to travel significantly because of Delaware International’s southern location,” Deyo said. “With such an uncertain forecast and a clear rain date, we felt this was the best-case-scenario with respect to peoples’ time and money.”

The event, sponsored by Taylor & Messick and Hurlock Auto & Speed Supply, moves in its entirety to Wednesday, August 5. All times and prices remain the same.

“This is disappointing for all of us, but definitely the right call,” Cathell said. “We’re looking at a great day on Wednesday.”

Modified racers, utilizing big- and small-block power, will battle for $5,000 to win, $1,000 for 10th and $400 to take the green flag at Charlie Cathell’s Route 13 half-mile as part of the Short Track Super Series (STSS) Fueled By Hi-Tek Pioneer Pole Buildings Inc. South Region presented by Scotty’s Speed& Diesel.

Lap money, bonuses and contingency awards have contributed to an unprecedented 50-lap event as the ‘Diamond State 50’ is contested for the first time since 2005.

The event takes added significance as event No. 4 of the five-race STSS South Region. Entering the Delaware International program, six drivers are within 19 points of the series lead in search of a $7,500 championship.

Ryan Watt and Rick Laubach are locked into a tie for the STSS South Region point lead with 242 points each. Anthony Perrego (237 points), Billy Pauch Jr. (228 points), David Van Horn Jr. (225 points) and Ryan Godown (223 points) trail the lead.

Also on the program are the Crate 602 Sportsman in a 25-lap, $1,000-to-win, $100-to-start main and the Super Trucks.

For the ‘Diamond State 50’ gates will open at 3 p.m. The drivers’ meeting takes place at 5:45 p.m., with hot laps at 6:20 p.m. and qualifying at 7 p.m.

Adult grandstand admission is $22. Students (ages 7-13) pay $5 and Kids 6 and under are FREE. Pit admission is $35, with Students (ages 7-13) paying $10 and Kids 6 and under FREE.
