ALL MODIFIEDS, ALL NIGHT! . . .. TUESDAY, JUNE 16 AS THE SUPER DIRTcar & 358 MODIFIEDS GEAR UP FOR THUNDER ON THE HILL DOUBLEHEADER
It’s been five years since the Super DIRTcar Big-Block Modified Series has taken to the famed 1/3 mile Grandview Speedway, but all of that changes on Tuesday, June 16 with a double-header of Big-Block Modified and 358 Modified action for the NAPA Auto Parts Thunder on the Hill Racing Series 18th Annual Traffic Jam. The real question is, who will Double Down and run both modified divisions?
This first time ever presentation at Grandview marks the only appearance of the DIRTcar Big-Blocks in the region — with over $44,000 in cash payout. all of the area’s top drivers and many invaders are lining up to get a piece of the action.
The Super DIRTcar Big-Block Modifieds will compete in a 60-lap event with $6,000 waiting for the winner in Victory Lane. The 358 Modifieds will battle for a $3,000 top-prize in a 30-lap event. Sweetening the pot is the Pioneer Pole Buildings Double Down Bonus – which will offer an additional $1,000 to any driver that can conquer both Modified events, sending that driver home with a whopping $10,000.
For a true modified fan, this event is a dream come true. No filler divisions on this program, it’s ALL Modifieds, ALL Night!
Leading the contingent of Series invaders is three-time and defending Super DIRTcar Big-Block Modified Series champion and two-time Traffic Jam winner, Unadilla, NY’s Billy Decker. Decker picked up right where he left off capturing the opening DIRTcar event on April 25 at the Fulton Speedway and is certainly a favorite leading into Tuesday, June 16 “on the hill”.
DIRTcar regulars expected to march in with Decker include: three-time Series Champion Matt Sheppard of Waterloo, NY, 2014 Forrest Roger Memorial winner Rochester, NY’s Danny Johnson, eight-time series champion Brett Hearn of Sussex, NJ and 2014 Freedom 76 winner Stewart Friesen.
A home-track advantage is definitely an asset and the Grandview Speedway weekly competitors have proved that they should not be taken lightly.
In 2010, after starting twenty-third in a thirty car field, Oley, PA’s Craig VonDohren roared passed series regular Dale Planck with just nine-laps remaining capturing the Traffic Jam victory. VonDohren knows the fast way around the Bechtelsville oval with almost 100 career victories at Grandview Speedway.
A pairing to keep an eye on is Oley, PA’s Duane Howard aboard the Mike Petruska owned Atlas Paving Contractors No. 66 machine. Howard holds the second spot on Grandview Speedway’s all-time win list and the Petruska No. 66 has seen DIRTcar series victory lane with almost every pilot that’s taken the wheel.
VonDohren and Howard along with Pennsylvania’s top guns: Jeff Strunk of Bechtelsville, Doug Manmiller of Shoemakersville, Rick Laubach of Quakertown, and Ryan Watt of Boyertown – hope to defend the home-turf against an insurgence of DIRTcar drivers and take home a possible $10,000.
Past Traffic Jam Winners include: Rick Laubach (2014), Duane Howard (2013), Danny Johnson (2012), Jeff Strunk (2011), Craig VonDohren (2010), Tim Fuller (2009, 2005), Brett Hearn (2009, 2007, 2002, 1998), Billy Decker (2008, 2003), Alan Johnson (2006), Tim McCreadie (2004, 2001), Frank Cozze (2000), and Jimmy Horton (1999)
Celebrating the 26th season of racing action NAPA Auto Parts Thunder on the Hill Racing Series always includes fun for the fans with activities such as: Pre-Race Pit Tours, the Inside/Out Experience – where fans can sign-up to watch hot laps from the infield, the Low Down & Dirty Radio Show pre-race Meet & Greet, JOE “THE PIZZA DUDE”, giveaways, fireworks and appearances by the Thunder Girls.
General Admission ticket pricing for Tuesday, June 16 is $25 for Adults, Children 6-11 are $10 and Kids 5 & under are FREE! Pit Admission pricing is $35 without a license and $30 with a DIRTcar or Grandview Speedway license.
