Malta, NY -January 21, 2017 – Sowle Trailer Repair, a family owned and operated mobile repair, towing and recovery business located in Glen, NY, has signed on with Albany-Saratoga Speedway to support three divisions of racing throughout the 2017 season.
Lyle DeVore, promoter of Albany-Saratoga Speedway (Malta, NY) and Mike Sowle, owner of S-T-R Trailer Repair are pleased to announce a unique S-T-R sponsorship package for the Modified, Sportsman and Pro Stock classes during the 2017 season at the popular Friday night track.
Mike Sowle has been a long-time supporter of local racing, sponsoring numerous drivers and local track events. His drivers for the 2017 season will include his son JaMike’s Sportsman effort, and Luke Horning’s Pro Stock effort.
“Albany-Saratoga Speedway has the best racing every week. Any number of drivers can win in each of the classes and every class has great racing,” declared Sowle. “I wanted to show my support for the racers who come out weekly. Lyle and I worked diligently to be sure my support would go to the racers and I think the resulting schedule is great. I’m really looking forward to the season and the level of competition we’ll see weekly.”
“The S-T-R support helps to elevate the purses and enhance the stature of the speedway,” said DeVore. “This is a good thing for our racers and we certainly appreciate Mike’s sponsorship and generosity.”
The “S-T-R Sportsman Class” will include a point fund for the Top 10 finishers in a 10-race series that will be run on select dates throughout the season. The series will support the weekly racer at the track with all 10 dates as part of a regular Friday night program. Each of the ten races (April 21, May 5, May 19, June 2, June 16, July 7, July 21, August 4, August 25 and September 1) will pay $1,000 to win. Any cancellations due to rain would most likely be rescheduled according to track management and dates are subject to change to accommodate the track schedule and unforeseen circumstances.
At the season-concluding 2017 awards banquet the high point man of those specific races will take home a first place award of $2,500. Tenth place in the point fund will pay $300. The “S-T-R Sportsman Series” point fund will be in addition to the regular track point fund.
In order to qualify for the “S-T-R Super Series Point Fund” the car must carry the “S-T-R Series” decals in their designated locations and the driver be a member in good standing of Albany-Saratoga Speedway and/or DIRTcar NE. Decals will be provided at the pre-season tech inspection as well as at the A-S Speedway office on opening night. Prior to the opening of the track decals will be available at the Sowle Trailer Repair office in Glen, NY.
The July 14th race weekend at the Speedway will be titled the “Sowle Summer Showdown” and will showcase a “Triple 50’s” program in which the Modifieds, Sportsman and Pro Stocks will each run a 50-lap feature with Sowle Trailer Repair paying $4,000, $3,000 and $2,000 respectively to the winner of each class. Each race will carry regular track points toward the track championship titles. Additional information regarding the complete purse and race format will be announced in the near future.
“The potential is there for six to at least 12 drivers in each division to take home a lot of cash for 50 laps of racing,” said DeVore. “What Mike Sowle is sponsoring is the racers that make this track as great as it is. He recognizes how difficult and expensive it is to run every class and he is adamant his support goes to the racers.”
On Friday, September 15, the highly competitive Pro Stock division will be premier class of the night running the “S-T-R Pro Stock Showdown” paying $2,500 to win for a 50-lap feature. The event will pay $200 for positions eight through 30. Additional information regarding the complete purse and race format will be announced as the race date gets closer. This is the only S-T-R sponsored event that will take place outside the regular point season.
“Given the quality of drivers in each division at A-S, you know the competition will be extremely high–not for just the S-T-R Sportsman Series but for the Triple 50 night and the Pro Stock Showdown,” stated DeVore. “S-T-R has provided a very large number of reasons for racing at Albany-Saratoga to become even more competitive.”
“Albany-Saratoga is the best track around in the Northeast,” stated Sowle. “I anticipate we’ll be supporting Albany-Saratoga in other ways during the season. It’s the ideal location to put the S-T-R name in front of thousands of people throughout the season and I’m looking forward to a great year.”
