CENTER LISLE, NY – Following a successful practice on Saturday, Thunder Mountain Speedway roars into action this weekend.

On Saturday (April 25), the three-eighths-mile clay oval in Center Lisle, N.Y., officially kick-starts its 2015 campaign with the annual Season Opener headlined by the big-block/small-block Modifieds racing 30 laps for $1,992 to win. The “1992” number signifies the year the speedway opened.

The night’s activities are sponsored by Waymart Building Center of Waymart, Pa., and Sharkey’s Fuels of South Canaan, Pa.

The ’15 campaign is expected to be the strongest yet for Thunder Mountain, back for the second season under the ownership of its founder Karl Spoonhower.

Joining the Modifieds on Saturday’s program are the Open Sportsman paying $700 to win, Crate 602 Sportsman (new this season, offering $400 to win and $100 to start), Rookie Sportsman, Street Stocks (paying $500 to win thanks to Barrett’s Race Cars), XCel 600 Modifieds and FWD Four Cylinders.

All divisions will draw for heat-race starting positions. The point battles get underway on Saturday.

Gates will open at 4 p.m., with hot laps at 6:20 p.m. and racing promptly at 7 p.m.

Grandstand admission is $12 for Adults, $10 for Seniors (ages 65 and over) and Students (ages 10-17). Kids 9 and under are FREE. Pit admission is $30, with no license required.

This past Saturday, the speedway hosted a well-attended “test and tune” session. Drivers took their first laps on the speedway, which was reconfigured and resurfaced during the off-season. Turn three has considerably higher banking and a more sweeping arc to turn four which should promote side-by-side racing.

A mix of newcomers and returning veterans, with a large amount of diversity, set the tone for a strong ’15 at Thunder Mountain.

“The turnout was really good,” speedway owner Spoonhower said. “It’s nice to have some drivers coming back that ran here when I had the track before. We’ve got some new cars, some drivers moving up: I was really encouraged by what I saw on practice day.”
