A “Sweet” Start For KK Racing

Barberville Fia.–Brad Sweet caught fire after Pennsylvania mechanic Lee Stauffer was brought on board before last year’s Knoxville Nationals and he hasn’t slowed down now that the calendar has flipped to 2016. The California Kid swept two of three World of Outlaw events during the DIRTcar Nationals at Volusia Speedway Park.
He finished second in the third WoO event and had finishes of eighth and 24th with the All Star Circuit of Champions, claiming the overall Nationals title. Beating Donny Schatz over an entire season for the WoO title is unlikely, but I have Sweet penciled in for at least 10 wins this season.
New Year, Same Schatz
Brad Sweet captured the overall title, but Donny Schatz proved why he is stil the best Sprint Car driver on the planet. It’s not that Schatz captured Saturday’s main event – that was expected – as much as it is how he easily passed cars. He beat the All Star Circuit of Champions from 10th, came from 17th into the top five before blowing a motor Friday and won Saturday’s WoO show from fifth. It seems Schatz and crew chief Ricky Warner have a good handle on the new rules package, which is bad news for the competition. I’m betting on another 30-wins season, any takers?
