Young Hot Shoes Ready to Take Field for 2nd Annual Sportsman Classic
Weedsport, NY – July 4, 2015On Sunday, July 5th, Weedsport Speedway will open its gates for the second annual Sportsman Classic presented by Industrial Tire of CNY. James Michael Friesen took the checkers in the inaugural running of the event last year in one of the most talked about Sportsman events of 2014.
With the help of supporters such as Dennis Beaudette of Industrial Tire of CNY, the region’s leading commercial and industrial tire specialist, Sportsman teams will be rewarded well during Sunday’s event. Along with the massive purse for the 75 lap feature event, teams will have the chance to grab extra cash with various contingency prizes. Teams who do not qualify for the night’s feature event will also have the opportunity to race in the $300 to win B-Main.
Young Sportsman star Ronnie Davis III will be one of the many top teams gunning for the feature win on Sunday. The defending Fulton Speedway Sportsman track champion has never won a race at the 3/8 mile oval, however, Davis would very much like to change thaton Sunday. “A win on Sunday would definitely be the biggest win of my racing career so far,” stated Davis. “Just to win at the track itself would mean a lot to me because it’s the first track I ever drove a race car on.” Davis will be one of many Sportsman drivers hoping to be the first to take the checkered flag on Sunday.
Along with the Sportsman Modifieds, the ever popular TUSA Mod Lite Series will be in attendance for a $500 to win feature. Drivers from all across the region, such as Mohawk Raceway hotshoe Jesse Hudson, Brewerton Speedway standouts Jim Bogett and Joe Isabell, Canadian frontrunner Paul Klager and more will all be in attendance. Joining the Mod Lites and the Sportsmans on the card for the night will be the lightning quick NY6A 600cc Micro Sprints. Fans of small car racing will certainly get their fix on Sunday night with both the TUSA Mod Lite Series and NY6A 600cc Micro Sprints in action.
The holiday weekend event will be sure to not only have fireworks on the racetrack, but above it as well. Along with the fantastic racing program, fans will be treated with a spectacular fireworks display. With the action on and above the track on Sunday, the second running of the Sportsman Classic presented by Industrial Tire of CNY will certainly be a must see event.
The Sportsman Classic is scheduled to take place this Sunday, July 5 with pit gates opening at 4 p.m. and grandstands opening at 5 p.m. Hot laps will start at 6 p.m. followed by qualifying at 6:40 p.m. and opening ceremonies at 7 p.m.
General Admission tickets cost $12 for adults; $5 for students ages 11-17 and free for children 10 and under. Pit admission is $25.00. Tickets can be purchased online at weedsportspeedway.com/tickets/.
