Three Days Until DIRTcar Modified Mayhem At Williams Grove Speedway!

IMG_0390-XLMECHANICSBURG, PA- June 21, 2016- Williams Grove Speedway will kick off the 26th annual PA Sprint Speedweek series coming up this Friday night, June 24 at 8 pm. The Lawrence Chevrolet 410 sprint cars will begin the nine-day series on Friday with a 25-lap feature paying $5,000 to win. The entire 2016 speedweek series is sponsored by Always Racing, a pastoral organization that ministers to the motorsports community during times of trauma and also in spiritual need.

The HJ Towing & Recovery 358 sprints will join the 410 sprints on the speedweek card and will race for an increased purse. The June 24 speedweek event with be another date in the 2016 Williams Grove Diamond Series.

Adult general admission for the speedweek show is $16 with youth ages 13- 20 admitted for just $10. The Williams Grove portion of the 50/50 drawing will be donated to Special Olympics of Central Pennsylvania.

Special Olympians who made it to the state championships this year will be honored at the speedweek event. Stevie Smith kicked off speedweek last season with a Williams Grove victory before Doug Esh came back for a win a week later in the annual Mitch Smith Memorial. Williams Grove Speedway will again host the $10,000 to win Speedweek Mitch Smith Memorial coming up this year on Friday, July 1 at 8 pm.

IMG_0263-XLThis week’s speedweek kickoff will be the 29th series event held at Williams Grove since the lucrative and intensely popular series began in 1991. Steve Smith Sr. won the first ever Williams Grove speedweek show on July 3, 1991 and went on to win the overall maiden series title. Currently at Williams Grove in the season-long point’s chase for the Lawrence Chevrolet 410 sprint car title, Danny Dietrich leads Greg Hodnett by 30 markers for the crown.

Super mods and URC sprints slated in special Wednesday action

Three days and counting until the Williams Grove Speedway gates swing open for the return of the Super DIRTcar Modifieds on Wednesday, June 22. Modified Mayhem at The Grove featuring the DIRTcar Modifieds at the track for the first time since 2006 offers a 100-lap feature with action beginning at 8 pm. The URC Sprints are also on the special mid-week racing card for what is sure to be an action-packed night of Williams Grove action.

Adult general admission tickets for Modified Mayhem are $25 with youth ages 13 – 20 admitted for $10 and ages 12 and under admitted for free. The Williams Grove portion of the 50/50 will be given to the Monroe Township Fire Company.

The DIRTcar Modifieds will compete in group time trials for the special event to go along with heat races, a B main and of course the 100-lap main event.

The huge big-block modified feature pays $6,000 to win. The URC Sprints will race in heats and a 25-lap feature with $2,000 posted to the winner. Greg Hodnett won the first URC show of the season at the track back on June 3. Big-block mod stars such as point leader Billy Decker along with Brett Hearn, Tim Fuller, Jimmy Phelps, Stewart Friesen and many more are expected to compete for the lucrative Grove laurels next week.

The Super DIRTcar big-block modifieds last competed at Williams Grove Speedway on October 15, 2006 when Jimmy Phelps earned the victory.

And Phelps is currently near the top in the 2016 DIRTcar series points.

Other DIRTcar mod winners the historic oval over the years include Brett Hearn on June 23, 1992; Danny Johnson on June 25, 1991; “Barefoot” Bob McCreadie on June 19, 1990 and Billy Pauch on August 22, 1989.

Williams Grove Speedway returns to action Friday, June 24 at 8 pm with the kickoff to the annual PA Sprint Speedweek Series featuring the speedweek sprints and the 358 sprint cars.

The speedweek feature will pay $5,000 to win for the 25-lap feature event.
