bigblockfeature0019BREWERTON, NY – August 26, 2016 – Vic Coffey in his big block modified career has won at speedways all over the Northeast including Super DIRT Week at the Syracuse mile twice. One track that always eluded Coffey going to victory lane was the Brewerton Speedway. Friday night all that changed for Caledonia, NY racer as he grabbed his first career win at the ‘D-Shaped Dirt Demon.’

In the 35 lap feature Coffey would pass race long leader Joe August Jr. on lap 22 and would never look back outdistancing Chad Phelps and Jimmy Phelps at the checkers.

Other winners on Mirabito night were Ron Davis III (Sportsman) Joe Isabell (Mod Lites) Chris Bonoffski (4-CYL). Ray Bechler was crowned the 2016 JB Logging & Firewood Four Cylinder Track Champion.

Joe August Jr. and Chris Hile brought the 800 horsepower Tracey Road Equipment DIRTcar Modified field down to the green to start the 35 lap feature that saw August grab the narrow early advantage.

With 10 laps complete August was still out front turning quick laps running the top of the speedway as Vic Coffey stayed within striking distance of the leader. Just behind the top two, Chad Phelps, Chris Hile, Ryan Bartlett and Max McLaughlin battled for third through sixth.

At the 15 lap mark August was running his best race of the season still hammering the top groove as Coffey and Phelps kept pace in second and third with Hile and Bartlett still showing in the top five.

Brewerton_Aug_26_Vic_CoffeyOn lap 21 in traffic August would see Coffey underneath him for a split second causing August to change to the bottom groove trying to slow Coffey’s momentum. Coffey took advantage going to the topside and driving by August and into the lead on lap 22.

With 10 laps to go Coffey would hold a ten car length advantage over Chad Phelps who was bouncing back from a hard crash at Fulton Speedway the previous Saturday night. August, Hile, Bartlett and title contender Jimmy Phelps were in tight four car race for third through sixth.

Over the remaining laps and no yellows to slow the action down Coffey outdistanced Chad Phelps and Jimmy Phelps to the checkers. Joe August Jr. finished his season best in fourth with Chris Hile fifth.
