DSC_0250New Egypt NJ.- May 27, 2016- Only after two modified races ‘Silly Season’ has begun at New Egypt Speedway, leaving one driver who was sitting on the sidelines at NES for 2016 back in action for the remainder of the season.

David VanHorn has been named the driver of Fred Vahlsing’s No. 323ov 358 Modified for the remainder of 2016 at New Egypt Speedway and select special shows.

“I honestly didn’t believe it when my phone rang yesterday, it’s one of those deals where you’re like ok, you want me to drive YOUR race car”, said VanHorn on Thursday at Delaware International Speedway where he was competing in a Short Track Super Series South Region event.

VanHorn who had stepped away from New Egypt Speedway for 2016 due to lack of a spec-head 358 motor, will now be back at a race track that he has had moderate success at and has competed at as a regular since 2009.

“I’m excited, I’ve never really driven full time for someone else, and it’s always been a family effort to put me on the race track. Fred has excellent equipment, I know I have to make a bunch of phone calls here in the future and have my work cut out for me but I couldn’t been happier right now”, repeated VanHorn.

DSC_0469DVH as he is known has four Modified wins at the Ocean County facility in both and big and small block modified competition and finished fourth in the final 2015 358 Modified point standings at NES.

Vahlsing and driver Neal Williams agreed to mutually part ways after four and a half years together.

“I can’t thank Fred enough for taking a chance on a young kid from South Jersey, We had a good run and i’ll never forget that”, said Williams.

After his win in the last North East Wingless Sprint Car feature at New Egypt Speedway Johnny Cornell will take over the ride in the No. 323ov NEWS Sprint Car in a couple weeks when they are the support division for the USAC National Sprint Car Tour along with the TQ Midget for the Len Sammons Motorsports Productions indoor series.

“I’m honored to be a part of this team along with David VanHorn, I’m excited for the new endeavor I hope to put this car in Victory Lane”, said Cornell on Friday morning.

Cornell will also be handling the assembly of the NEWS Sprint Cars.

Regardless to say the rest of the 2016 season just got a lot more interesting at New Egypt Speedway and we’re not even to the month of June yet.
