266VERNON, N.Y. – August 30, 2016- Due to several conflicts with various tracks and organizations the Utica-Rome Speedway and the Race of Champions series have decided to cancel the Race of Champions 200 scheduled for Saturday, September 10th while adding a special $3,000 to win 40-lap event for the Race of Champions Modifieds on September 11th.

“With the events in Quebec, Grandview and at Middletown we thought it was best to cancel the show for this year,” stated track promoter Bill Shea.  “Once we realized we’d be competing against major events at other facilities we thought it was wise not force people to make a choice as to who to support.”

Although the 200 lap event has been scratched for 2016 season the RoC Modifieds remain an overall part of the New Yorker Weekend.  The new schedule for the weekend includes two days of racing action which includes the King of Dirt Sportsman, King of Dirt Pro Stocks as well as the CRSA Sprint Cars on Saturday September 10th.  The track then comes back to life on Sunday for a huge event including the postponed Cole Cup for the 360 Sprint Cars as well as the RoC Modifieds and the newly added RoC 602 Sportsman series.  Both Sportsman events will guarantee $1,000 to the winner.

The Cole Cup was originally scheduled for July 30th as part of the Mid-Atlantic Champion weekend for the 360 Sprint Cars.  The event will still pay $10,000 to the winner while $500 will go to any driver that qualifies for the 30-lap A-Main event.  Drivers from all over the Northeast are expected to be a part of the event including several top drivers from the Pennsylvania Posse, Lucas Oil Empire Super Sprints and the United Racing Club.  So far Stewart Friesen is the only driver to capture the Cole Cup as he’s won the event twice in its short history with event falling to rain last year.

The newly added New Yorker 40 for the RoC Modified should see a strong field of drivers entered as there are no competing events for that Sunday.  Drivers will run timed hot laps to determine starting line ups for their qualifying heat races before competing in a $3,000 to win feature.
