fulton640003FULTON, NY – June 5, 2016 – Perfect weather, a large crowd and a pit full of race cars made for a great night of racing Saturday at the Fulton Speedway on Penn Commercial Vehicle Solutions night.

Feature winners were, Tim Sears Jr. (Tracey Road Equipment Big Block Modifieds) Tyler Trump (SUNY Canton Sportsman) AJ Kingsley (Billy Whittaker Cars & Trux Late Models) Haiden Burdick & Willy Decker Jr. (E&V Energy Novice Sportsman) Danny Varin (Patriot Sprint Tour).

Coming off his career best fourth place finish Friday night at the Brewerton Speedway sophomore big block modified driver Andrew Ferguson used that momentum to jump out to the early lead in the 35 lap Tracey Road Equipment DIRTcar Big Block Modified feature.

With 5 laps complete Ferguson opened up a half a straightaway lead over Mike Bowman, Max McLaughlin, Billy Whittaker and Matt Hulsizer who were in a tight battle for second through fifth.

Ferguson would see his 2.5 second lead go away on lap 8 when the yellow would wave for Chad Phelps who had front end damage when he made heavy contact with an implement tire in turn two.

fulton640001At the 10 lap mark Ferguson still led but he now had Bowman all over his back bumper challenging for the lead. Behind the top two you could have thrown a blanket over Tim Sears Jr., Whittaker and Hulsizer as they fought for position just before a quick caution.

With 15 laps in the books Ferguson, still running the bottom of the speedway, showed the way out front as he had Sears trying to look for a quicker groove to get by him. Bowman was only a couple cars behind the top two with Hulsizer and Whittaker still showing on the scoring tower.

Ferguson was still running the race of his life with 10 laps to go with Sears and Whittaker trying to rattle him into a mistake. Bowman and Hulsizer were still strong, running fourth and fifth.

On lap 30 Sears had to go where Ferguson wasn’t, so he went to the top of the speedway and found enough speed to drive into the lead. Once out front Tim Sears Jr. was able to drive away for the 1.4 second win. Billy Whittaker, Andrew Ferguson, Mike Bowman and Jimmy Phelps finished second through fifth. Max McLaughlin, Chris Hile, Matt Hulsizer, Tom Sears Jr. and Robbie Bellinger completed the top ten.

fulton640012In the 25 lap SUNY Canton Sportsman feature high school students Mike Stanton Jr. and Tyler Trump would set the early pace swapping the lead back and forth in the first four laps before a yellow slowed the pace. On the restart Stanton would retake the lead and set the race pace out front.

With 10 laps showing on the scoring tower Stanton and Trump were in a two car breakaway at the front of the field. Brett Draper, Kyle Fink and Jessica Power were a tight race for third through fifth.

On lap 12 Trump used a slower car as a pick and was able to drive by Stanton to retake the lead.

The yellow would wave on lap 17 erasing the almost three second lead Trump built up setting up an eight lap dash to the checkers.

When the green came back out Tyler Trump hit his marks over the remaining laps on the bottom of the speedway as he pulled away for his first career win in the SUNY Canton Sportsman. Ron Davis III came from starting 16th to finish second.  Mike Stanton Jr., Kyle Fink and Jessica Power finished third through fifth.

Tony Finch II would lead the opening lap of the 20 lap Billy Whittaker Cars & Trux RUSH Late Model feature before AJ Kingsley powered his way into the lead a lap later.

With 10 laps showing on the scoring tower Kingsley still led but he was getting pressure from Brandon Ford and Bret Belden. Last week feature winner Kevan Cook and Billy Eisele showed in fourth and fifth.

With the flagger giving the field the 5 laps to go sign Kingsley was on rails out front putting on a clinic. Cook, Ford with a broken right rear shock, Belden and Eisele were still putting on a show for second through fifth.

Over the remaining laps Kingsley didn’t slow down a tick as he cruised under the checkers 2.685 seconds ahead of Kevan Cook. Billy Eisele, Bret Belden and Chris Fleming finished third, fourth and fifth.

For the second week in a row the E&V Energy Novice Sportsman had to run a pair of 15 lap features.

In the first feature Torrey Stoughtenger ran his best race of the season leading the first 9 laps before Haiden Burdick, making his first race of the year at the speedway, took over the lead on lap 10. Once out front Burdick would lead the rest of the way. Richie Riggs, Torrey Stoughtenger, Tyler Thompson and Kelly Smith finished second through fifth.

In the second feature Ryan Hatherill would lead the opening lap before Willy Decker drove into the top spot one lap later and was never headed the rest of the distance. Joey Buonagurio ran a strong race finishing second. Taylor Jackson, Kyle Perry and Michelle Courcy finished third through fifth.

fulton640039Thirty Patriot Sprint Tour cars filled the pits for round two of the A-Verdi Storage Containers Brewerton & Fulton 360 Sprint Car Series.

In the 25 lap A-Main Larry Wight wasted no time going from his third starting spot to the lead on the opening lap.

With 5 laps showing on the scoring tower Wight was on the hammer opening a half a straightaway lead over Danny Varin. Chuck Hebing, Daryl Ruggles, Mitch Brown and Joe Trenca were in a close fight for third through sixth.

By lap 10 Wight was still out front with his car working anywhere on the speedway as he was easily putting cars a lap down. Varin still ran second as he kept Wight within sight as he tried to narrow the gap. Hebing, Ruggles and now Sammy Reakes who started 9th raced for third through fifth.

The yellow would wave on lap 12, taking away the big lead Wight had, in an incident involving Paul Habeck.

With 10 laps to go Wight running a quick pace up high held about a five car length advantage over Varin who was hugging the bottom groove looking for a way to close the gap. Behind the top two Hebing, Bryan Howland from 13th and Ruggles kept their cars in the top five.

After staying on the bottom the entire race Varin made that groove pay off as he was to get by Wight on Lap 17 to go to the top of the scoring tower.

pstvl0003The final caution of the race would come on lap 23 setting up a dash to the checkers between the four quickest cars on the speedway in Varin, Wight, Hebing and Howland.

Over the final two laps Wight threw everything he had at Varin pulling even in the turns. Varin stuck on the bottom in the brown, where there seemed to be some moisture, to win the race down the straightaways. Varin would win by 00.378 over Wight at the checkers. Chuck Hebing, Bryan Howland and Joe Trenca finished third through fifth.
