NASCAR Whelen Southern Modified Tour

(Bowman Gray Stadium, Winston-Salem, NC) Burt Myers fans are pleased that his 2015 season has started like his 2014 season. They just hope that it doesn’t end up the same.
At this point in 2014, Myers was the points leader for the Brad’s Golf Cars Modified Series. He had nearly a perfect season with a first place and a second place finish out of two races. But last season also saw Myers finishing fourth
in the final points standings after a stiff penalty from NASCAR Officials.
This year, he again has a strong points lead – and he’s even improved upon last season with two wins out of two races. The rest of the season? We’ll have to see.
“It’s a testament to how hard we work, and the dedication that these guys have,” said Burt Myers. “God is good. What can I say?”
Dean Ward of Winston-Salem fought with Myers for the race lead in last event’s Kevin Powell Motorsports 100, finishing second – good enough to place Ward second in the points standings.
Brandon Ward of Winston-Salem has turned in some strong performances in the car that used to be owned by nine-time champ Tim Brown of Tobaccoville. Ward has finished third and seventh to place him at third on the points
ladder.
In the Farm Bureau Insurance Sportsman Series, Zack Clifton of Walkertown claimed the checkered to move up and tie Zack Ore of Winston-Salem for the points lead. Last year’s champ, Taylor Branch of Lewisville, has been
charging through the field and currently ranks third.
Derrick Rice of Kernersville has finished first and third in the last two events, giving him the lead so far in the Q104.1 New Country Street Stock Series. But last event’s winner, Brian Wall of Winston-Salem, is right on his tails in
second – just two points down.
The McDowell Heating & Air Stadium Stock Series didn’t have the opportunity to race in last event after the skies opened and poured rain. A.J. Sanders of Mocksville and Daniel Yates of Lexington each have one win, tying them for
the points lead.
The Street Stock class has their big event this Saturday – it’s the Whelen Street Stock 50. The Street Stock competitors will qualify for position, and the Double-File Restart Rule will be thrown into the mix. Plus there will be racing
for the super-charged Modifieds, the Sportsman Series, and the Stadium Stock Series. And the night will end with the always wild and popular 109 U-Pull-It Chain Race.
Gates open at 6:00 for practice, and the first race begins at 8:00 PMthis Saturday night. Ticket prices, directions, and more information can be found online atwww.bowmangrayracing.com or by calling (336) 723-1819.
