MINERSVILLE, PA – After feedback from fans and competitors, management teams of the Bob Hilbert Sportswear Short Track Super Series (STSS) Fueled By Sunoco and Big Diamond Speedway have announced a rain date for the ‘Anthracite Assault’ which was nixed by the weather on June 5.
The event will be made up on Monday, July 16.
As scheduled on its original date, this event will offer points toward both the STSS Modified Halmar International North Region and STSS Velocita-USA South Region. It is also an American Racer Cup Challenge event for both the Modified and Sportsman divisions, counting toward the Insinger Performance South Region totals.
The original ‘Anthracite Assault’ date on June 5 drew a full pit area headlined by 49 STSS Modifieds to the Minersville track. However a deluge at the time of the drivers’ meeting put an end to the event.
“Our fans were very disappointed in not being able to see the great field of cars we had assembled put on a show,” STSS organizer Brett Deyo said. “We knew it would be a challenge to find a viable date, but we feel we have found a rare date in the summer with no conflicts on the Northeast Modified calendar.”
Big Diamond promoter Jake Smulley wanted to get the event in as well.
“We had a great field,” Smulley said. “It is always discouraging to get that close to the start of the show and lose out. Hopefully we can get a nice day this time around.”
The show will be run as it had been scheduled on its original date. Modifieds battle $5,000 to win with $1,000 for 10th and $400 to take the green for 50 laps. The STSS Open Sportsman race 20 laps for a $1,000 winner’s share and XCel 600 Modifieds complete the tripleheader in a tour race.
Times and pricing remain as posted for the original date.
All STSS teams received 25 points for towing to Big Diamond on June 5. Those bonus points will remain on their totals toward the 2018 championship battles.
Please note, as refunds were distributed for all admissions and car registration fees, this will be a complete new event with an open draw for position.
Big Diamond Speedway is a three-eighths-mile clay oval located in Minersville, Pa., just miles from Pottsville.
