“The Ringoes Rocket” Ryan Godown had one of the most profitable weekends in his dirt modified career winning $22,500 in just over 48 hours.

Ryan picked up his second straight (and third overall) New Egypt Speedway 358 Modified crown worth $10,000 on Saturday and did so in dominating fashion.  Godown rolled off fourteenth in his #747 Troyer racecar’s mount knowing he had to finish fourth or better to secure the title.

“I figured I didn’t want to put myself in a bad position. I’m not a big fan of points racing. I know I had to go out there and win that way you know what you’ve got when it comes to the points,” said Godown who took the lead from John Pakenham on lap 23 of the 30 lap affair and never looked back winning his sixth feature worth $2,500 of the season at New Egypt and putting an exclamation point on a rather dominating season. Godown took the point lead on Opening Night back in April and lead through the entire season.

Godown wasn’t done there though.

DSC_0051On Sunday, he loaded up Bill Hewlett’s 901 and headed to the Big Diamond Speedway in Minersville for the annual CoalCracker 72. Danny Bouc and Rick Laubach would share the lead for the first 24 laps of the 72 lap main event with Godown taking the lead on lap 25. Godown would lead through the fuel stop on lap forty but during the stop he noticed the right front shock tower was bent forward after contact with another car earlier on in the race. That shock tower (which is held on with just a bolt) finally gave way and broke with less than 10 laps remaining causing Laubach to reel Godown in and challenge for the lead. Laubach would throw a slide job on Godown in between turns one and two on the final lap but Godown would cross Laubach over down the backstretch and not look back earning him another $10,000 on the weekend.

“I can’t believe the shock tower broke. I’m lucky the car didn’t dig in because then it wouldn’t have ended well,” said Godown by phone on Tuesday afternoon.

Ryan isn’t slowing down just yet. He will chase another $25,000 this Saturday night in the 45th annual Freedom 76 at Grandview Speedway, which he has to be considered one of the favorites. After that it will be back to New Egypt for their third annual All Star Cup Shootout perhaps followed by a trip to the Bridgeport Speedway for the “Romp in the Swamp” $10,000 to win Modified race on their 1/4 mile.

Super DIRT Week prep is also going on for the driver of the 747. As of now plans include running the Syracuse 200 big block race and Bill Hewlett’s 901 in the satellite races during the week. “I’m trying to put something together to run the small block race but nothing has come up yet,” said Godown.

Be assured wherever and whenever he unloads for the remainder of the year Ryan Godown will sure be a threat.
