MODHEATS0028ELMA, NY – May 11, 2016- The month of May is always a highlighted month in racing circles and synonymous with the Indianapolis 500. For the Ferris Mowers Race of Champions fueled by Sunoco it presents a busy stretch for the series on both asphalt and dirt.

The Dirt Modifieds jump into action at Utica-Rome Speedway on Sunday, May 22 in the highly anticipated Victoria 200 event (the race is a 55-lap sprint event) which will signify the opening event of the season for the Race of Champions Dirt Modified Series with $5,500 going to the winner.

Matt Sheppard has opened strong at Utica-Rome posting two early season victories.

SHEPPARDVLcanandaigua0001“Things will get stepped up on Sunday, May 22,” offered Sheppard. “It’s an event we all want to win and it’s a sprint, so it’s not a pace race. You have to go as hard as you can from the drop of the green. It’s going to be an exciting night.”

The Asphalt Modifieds have three events scheduled with the Richie Evans Memorial at Oswego Speedway on Saturday, May 14, the Queen City Clash at Lancaster National Speedway on Saturday, May 21 and then the rescheduled Chemung Speedrome event on Friday, May 27.

“This stretch will define a lot of the season,” offered Ransomville’s Chuck Hossfeld. “Because the weather hasn’t been very cooperative, the schedule has been compressed and our teams are going to have to work hard to maintain the pace. It’s going to be challenging and interesting.”

The month of May will provide Race of Champions teams the platform that vaults them toward the Summer’s stretch of races, ultimately determining who will be the 2016 Series champions.
