OSWEGO, NY (April 26, 2018) – The purse breakdown for the Lighthouse Lanes SBS Series season opening 30-lap ‘May Meltdown’ event set to take place Saturday, May 12 at the Evans Mills Speedway has been revealed.

The purse rundown is decided by Evans Mills Speedway track owner Vern LaFave and is based on the appearance of a twelve car count for the Small Block Supers on raceday along with a $500 sponsor provided by the tour. This will allow Evans Mills to pay the purse in its entirety depending on car count.

Should twelve cars not appear at the track on May 12, the tour itself will need to pay a portion of the purse.

“We are really counting on twelve cars on the 12th of May, that’s the goal,” said series president Mike Bruce. “I appreciate everyone’s continued interest and support in this event prior to the start of Oswego’s point season. We know everyone is scrambling to get things finished this time of year, but I think it will all pay off with a great show under the lights next month.”

Unlike last year’s ‘Fall Brawl’ 50, which will again return as a $1,000 to win event this September, the ‘May Meltdown’ show at the Mills will be $600 to win for 30-laps. The remaining funds from last year’s Lighthouse Lanes SBS Series fundraiser will be put towards paying the entire purse for the series’ Spencer Speedway show in June along with expenses for the 2nd annual Fall Brawl.

“We have the entire amount from last year’s fundraiser remaining less $100 used to put together the series website,” Bruce stated. “However, in order for us to appear at Spencer Speedway this June, we have been asked to pay the entire purse, which the track is currently finalizing for us. With interest in the Spencer event continuing to be pretty high and barring in mind the goal of making the Fall Brawl even bigger this year, $600 to win is the number Vern and I came up with for the May show. If we bump this up and don’t have enough to pay the purse at Spencer than we are in a bit of a pinch. The plan is to use the fundraising cash for the Spencer purse and then put whatever is left into making the September event at Evans Mills as big as possible. If anyone has any questions or suggestions about this topic, I would greatly appreciate them and welcome texts and calls to my cell at (315)-591-6674.”

As always, the series most important goal is searching for sponsors ahead of what is currently a three race schedule that includes Evans Mills Speedway May 12, Spencer Speedway June 29, and Evans Mills Speedway again on September 16. More events at the conclusion of Oswego’s season could be added in the future, but are not confirmed at this point in time.

“We are always looking for sponsors for the series,” Bruce added. “We have a website and active presence on social media which allows us to promote your brand and also gives businesses, individuals, or even some of the race fans the opportunity to support one of the newest pavement touring series in the area. Getting sponsors is the key. We do not want to have any more fundraisers as we don’t want the money coming out of our own pockets. The Lighthouse Lanes SBS Series has been fortunate enough to work closely with Bob Hoefer and have Lighthouse Lanes onboard as our title sponsor. Last year we had great support from Cam’s Pizzeria for our heat race winners and Route 37 Building Supply to sponsor the event at Evans Mills as well. We hope to renew those contingencies for this year and are always looking for more sponsors to get us off and running. Any suggestions are welcomed.”

Based on the $500 series sponsor and a twelve car minimum, the Lighthouse Lanes SBS Series ‘May Meltdown’ purse will be as follows; 1. $600, 2. $400, 3. $200, 4. $175, 5. $145, 6. $135, 7. $125, 8. $110, 9. $105, 10-24. $100.

Ahead of the seconds series’ appearance at Evans Mills, fifteen cars have already confirmed their intent to compete in the 30-lap Spring Championship event which will get underway with preliminary action at 6pm before the first ever Lighthouse Lanes SBS Series event under the lights.

“It’s exciting to get to compete under the lights there for the first time,” Bruce commented. “I hope we can bring another solid field of cars up to Evans Mills and put on a good, clean show for their fans. We hope to showcase what Small Block Super racing at Oswego Speedway is all about and already look forward to returning in September for a huge event as well.”
