thumbnail_070816Malta, NY –July 10, 2016- Fireworks on the track and above the clay at Albany-Saratoga Speedway Friday night, which saw 33 cars strong sign in for the King Of Dirt Pro Stock Series. Dan Older has been supporting the series since day one and he was finally able to reach victory lane in the Full Fender Firecracker on Lazzaro’s Auto Body night at the great race place after leading all 30-laps in the feature event.

Dan Older and Chuck Dumblewski would lead the field to the green, with Older taking the lead leaving Dumblewski to battle with the high flying Dan Maidgan for second. At the same time Dave DePaulo, Kim Duell, and Robbie Speed waged war for top five running positions.

On lap four the yellow flew for a multi-car tangle that involved some heavy hitters and point contenders. Rob Yetman, Walt Brownell, and Jason Casey were among those involved, however all would return to action as the field reset for a double file restart.

IMG_0181When the green flag dropped again Dan Older quickly established the lead again with Nick Stone making moves to gain the 4th position. At the same time ‘Krazy’ Kenny Martin entered the battle between Speed and DePaulo making it 3 cars deep for the 5th spot.

Just as Speed secured the 5th position defending KOD Pro Stock champion Nick Stone appeared to get loose after clipping an infield tire and lost several positions back to 11th. While that was happening Speed took 5th from Martin and 4th from Duell on his way to the front.

Halfway through the 30-Lap Full Fender Firecracker saw Dan Older, Dan Madigan, Chuck Dumblewski, Robbie Speed, and Kim Duell holding down top five running positions.

IMG_0208Trouble on lap 21 for 3rd place in points ‘Cousin’ Luke Horning, as he would pull in the pits with mechanical failure on the number 2H. Just after that the yellow flew on lap 23 for the 463 of Daniel Sanchez who came to a stop in the backstretch. The field would restack for another double file restart.

On the restart Older jumped out to the lead, but was followed closely by Dumblewski who was now under pressure from Speed for the second spot. Just as that turned into a three-car battle the yellow flew again for a heavy impact just off turn two involving Rob Yetman, David Emigh, and Jeff Washburn. All drivers were uninjured, but their racecars were done for the day.

Back to green flag racing and Older again was able to maintain the lead despite heavy pressure from Speed who had established 2nd place. Behind them Dumblewski was under pressure from Martin who was moving forward with just a few laps remaining.

IMG_0194Despite their best efforts nobody was denying Dan Older the victory, as he went on to win the 30-Lap Full Fender Firecracker in front of his home crowd and on his sponsors night at the track. Speed held on for the runner up spot with Martin, Dumblewski, Stone, Duell, DePaulo, Charbonneau, Madigan, and Smith rounding out the top ten.

Next up for King Of Dirt Racing is a trip to the high banks of Lebanon Valley Speedway for ‘Battle On The Banks’ with the stars and cars of the Sportsman series on Saturday August 6th. After that on August 27th at Lebanon Valley Speedway the Pro Stock Series will throw down for the crown and determine a king.

NOTES: 33 full-fender Pro Stocks checked in at Albany-Saratoga on July 8th. That is the 2nd highest car count for KOD Pro Stocks in 2016. Dan Older became only the 5th driver to win a KOD Pro Stock event Friday night. Bill Smith started 29th in the feature event and finished 10th. Moving up 19 spots earned him the Saratoga Masonry Hard Charger and $100 cash bonus. Dave Bissonnette currently sits 7th in points, however leads the ‘Newcomer Of The Year’ standings over Byron Wescott and Jon Routheir. Chuck Dumblewski had a solid 4th place run that catapulted him into 2nd place point standings on the KOD Pro Stock tour. Another big mover was Dean Charbonneau who finished 8th and now finds himself 4th in points and for the 2nd time has a shot at the KOD crown. Rob Yetman can’t catch a break at the great race place, but is still in the title hunt sitting 3rd in points. Dan Madigan had his career best finish on the KOD tour with a 9th place run. Finally Kim Duell shook the bad luck bug with a heat race win and 6th place finish.
