CORR/PAK MERCHANDISING 360 SPRINT CARS (16 entries)
Glenn Styres went to victory lane at Ohsweken for a 4th consecutive time on Friday. Styres made a big move on the first lap to advance from 6th to 1st, then hold off Jim Huppunen and Mitch Brown for his 26th Ohsweken win.
Stan Zanchin brought out a yellow flag following a near-flip before the first lap was complete, and Styres used his second chance at the double file start to make his move. Once out front, Styres began to try several different lines around the track, allowing Huppunen to close the gap and challenge for the lead as they encountered traffic.
Styres had a clear track to work with on a lap 13 restart which followed a yellow flag for the stopped car of Dain Naida. Mitch Brown quickly moved from 5th to 3rd after the restart, then moved around Huppunen with 2 laps to go. Brown gained on Styres but ran out of time, as Styres won by 0.591 seconds. Brown settled for the runner-up spot, followed by Huppunen, Todd Hoddick, and Keith Dempster.
Hoddick’s lead in the championship standings is down to 6 points over Brown, and 11 points over Styres.

STRICKLAND’S GMC CRATE SPRINT CARS (13 entries)
Holly Porter became the third driver of the season to win their first career Crate Sprint Car feature on Friday. Mike Thorne started on the front row with Porter and took the lead early in the feature. The race was quickly halted after just 2 laps when Kyle Durnin flipped wildly off turn 3. Durnin was able to walk away from the crash, which left his car heavily damaged.
Thorne opened a lead again when the green flag came out, but Porter methodically cut into the advantage, and took the lead on lap 12. She went on to win by 2.339 seconds over Thorne, who held off Mark Czuba for the runner-up spot, followed by 10th starter Dylan Westbrook, and Brad Herron.
Westbrook now has a 26 point lead over Jake Brown in the championship standings, with Alex Hill 1 point behind Brown.

AFFORDABLE TOWING & RECOVERY THUNDER STOCKS (38 entries)
The longest race of the Thunder Stock season began with Rob Murray and Wyatt Van Wart on the front row. Van Wart took the lead early in the 50 lap race, while Murray dropped back and eventually fell out with a broken axle. Dave Bailey moved from 10th into 2nd by the time 4 laps were complete, but Karl Sault got around Bailey on the 10th lap.
The first yellow flag of the race came out a lap later when Mike Graham lost his right front wheel. Sault dropped out of 2nd place to make a fuel stop during the caution period, and restarted at the tail end of the field. Smoke from Billy Bleich’s car brought out the next yellow flag on lap 18. Bleich had been running 3rd on the track and looked to be in position to stay in championship contention with Van Wart and Bailey, but lost a lot of points with what ended up being a 25th place finish.
The restart found Dave Silverthorn, Jr. and 21st starter Bryce Richardson 3rd and 4th behind Van Wart and Bailey. Richardson continued marching forward and took the lead on lap 26, while Karl Sault moved into 9th at the same time. Richardson’s hopes of claiming the big prize were dashed when he ran out of fuel with 15 laps remaining. Van Wart retook the lead from Richardson, but couldn’t hold onto it as Sault completed his comeback to lead the last 11 laps.
Sault took the win by 1.966 seconds over Van Wart, while Bailey, Jesse McDonald, and Silverthorn survived some late carnage to cross 3rd, 4th, and 5th, respectively. Silverthorn was penalized for post-race contact, which moved Chris Dickie into the 5th position, followed by 20th starter Dave Small, 23rd starter Dale Gyokery, Jim Lampman, Pete Reid, and Derek Liverance.
Bailey’s lead in the championship standings is now 9 points over Van Wart.

Jason Lungaro’s points lead took a hit when he was caught up in a hard crash with Steve Miller on the backstretch, which saw Miller’s car take an especially hard hit. Both drivers walked away, but were unable to restart the race.
