Oswego NY. … Since the December announcement that NASCAR’s Whelen Modified Tour would return to Oswego Speedway’s Classic Weekend this September, excitement and anticipation has filled the air of open-wheel pavement and Modified enthusiasts.

Now, that eagerness can be quantified as reserved seating for the 60th annual celebration of Oswego’s Classic Weekend, paired again with the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour, are now on sale.

Fans can reserve their seats for the incredible double header of the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour 150 and the high flying ISMA Supermodified Super Nationals 60 held on Saturday, September 3, for just $50 by calling (315) 342-0646.

To help celebrate the entire weekend of action, fans can take it one step further by reserving admission to the entire three day racing weekend for only $95.

The diamond anniversary schedule of Classic Weekend officially opens on Friday, September 2 with ‘Fast Friday’ qualifying for the Novelis Supermodified International Classic 200 and the Pathfinder Bank Small Block Super Classic 75, featuring time trials for each division as well as SBS heat races and the annual Party in the Pits.

Fans that purchase a Saturday/Sunday combination ticket, in either GA or reserved seating, will earn free entry to the Friday portion of the weekend.

The final day of action will of course feature the 60th running of the Novelis Supermodified International Classic 200 and the 25th running of the Pathfinder Bank Small Block Super Classic 75.

A weekend reserved ticket will lock fans in for 485 laps of action, featuring the best in pavement open wheel racing, for only $95.

Campers are also welcome for the entire week leading up to Classic Weekend with camping gates opening Sunday, August 28 for just $50 through the entire week.

The NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour first came to Oswego in 1988, running a total of eight events between ’88 and 1989.

Brian Ross won the first two NASCAR events ever held at Oswego with Mike McLaughlin and George Kent also collecting victories in ’88.  Kent’s triumph was the first NASCAR sanctioned event held at the Big O during International Classic Weekend.

NASCAR’s ’89 schedule at Oswego belonged to Tony Hirschman.

Hirschman won three of the four events held at the ‘Steel Palace’ that season including the most recent Whelen Modified Tour stop during Classic Weekend.

Mike Stefanik was the only other Modified winner that season at Oswego, adding his name to the short list of NASCAR sanctioned victors on the 5/8 mile.

While Oswego has not been on the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour schedule in some 27 years, the tour itself has not visited upstate New York since July of 2009 when second generation racer Erick Rudolph went to victory at Williamson, NY’s Spencer Speedway.

Since the year 2000, the NASCAR Whelen Modified Tour has visited upstate on only eight occasions at facilities such as Watkins Glen International, Holland International, Chemung Speedrome, Spencer Speedway, and Adirondack International, making this year’s stop in Oswego a rare opportunity to see the northeast’s premier asphalt modified tour locally.

The full 2016 Oswego Speedway event schedule is now available on the Speedway’s website.

Full ticket information and questions can be directed to the Speedway box office at (315) 342-0646.
