602 Crate Engines Only Option Going Forward On Tour

093-001FONDA, NY- June 30, 2016- With competition growing intense on the King Of Dirt Pro Stock tour and some reasonable concerns about the weight differences between open pro stock motor cars and GM 602 Crate Motor cars, the King Of Dirt Pro Stock Series made the decision to even the playing field going forward. Only engine option for the full-fender division will be the crate engine.

Currently DIRTcar rules are 3300 lbs. along with a 5800-rpm rev. chip for open Pro Stock engine packages. Many drivers across the landscape have been switching over to crate engine packages so they can utilize the 3000 lb. weight rule along with a 6,000-rpm rev. chip rule.

115After careful consideration and discussion with KOD track promoters, the series has decided to take a step forward in balancing the playing field. GM crate engine part number 88958602/19258602 are the only engines permitted for the King Of Dirt Pro Stock Series going forward. This rule change takes effect July 8th at Albany-Saratoga Speedway for the Full Fender Firecracker.

“Honestly most won’t notice. Pro Stocks put on some great racing and it’s intense. On bigger tracks there is some concern the open motor package will be hard to beat and there were some drivers who expressed concern that they have to have multiple engine packages,” stated KOD Promoter Rob Hazer.

He continued by saying, “I spoke with promoters from the KOD tracks involved with our series and they were all for it. They’re optimistic it’ll level the playing field at all tracks and possibly bring in more cars. I saw the direction the tracks were heading and heard rumblings of DIRTcar going all crate for their Pro Stocks next year and it was something we had discussed as a series already.”

The KOD Pro Stock Tour has two remaining point races left with one being July 8th at Albany-Saratoga Speedway and one August 27th at Lebanon Valley Speedway. Also there is a non-point race at Utica Rome Speedway September 9th. All Pro Stock drivers in competition those evenings will be required to run the DIRTcar Crate Package and weigh a minimum of 3,000 lbs. Tire package will remain the same on the KOD Pro Stock tour, which is D60’s on all four corners.

“This puts us in line with the DIRTcar Pro Stock rules regarding the crate engine package with very little difference. The only difference being we (KOD) mandate D60’s on all four corners. So guys will be on crates, they’ll weigh 3,000 lbs., they’ll have D60’s all the way around, and they’ll have a DIRTcar rev box with a 6,000 chip. I do apologize if it seems sudden, but most guys that follow the tour are already there and many follow the DIRTcar tour as well,” concluded KOD Promoter Rob Hazer.
