Brew%205-27-16015BREWERTON, NY – May 28,2016 – The racing action on the speedway was as hot as the temperature to kick off the summer season Friday night at the Brewerton Speedway.

In the Tracey Road Equipment DIRTcar Modifieds, Picton, Ontario, Canada’s Tim Kerr would use a lap 14 outside pass to get by leader Vinnie Vitale and then would hold off a late race charge from Pat Ward for the popular 35 lap win.

Other winners on the JPW Companies Night were Jack Meeks (SUNY Canton Sportsman) Jeff Sykes (Firehouse Subs Mod Lites) Ray Bechler (JB Logging & Firewood 4-CYL).

After a couple attempts to start the Tracey Road Equipment DIRTcar Modified feature Mike Bowman would lead the opening 3 laps of the feature before Vinnie Vitale who started third on the grid would take over the top spot.

Tim Kerr would move into the second spot on lap 5 and take off after Vitale. After a tight battle with Vitale, Kerr would drive around Vitale in turn two on lap 14 when Vitale moved off the top of the speedway just enough to let Kerr shoot by. Once in the lead Kerr would outrun Pat Ward by 00.879 of a second at the finish. Vitale, in teammate Dale Planck’s 77X, finished third. Rookie Max McLaughlin continues to impress, with his second top five finish in three starts, finished fourth and early race leader Mike Bowman finished fifth.

Points leader and defending track champion Matt Sheppard started deep in the field and finished sixth. Jimmy Phelps came back from two early trips to the pits to finish a strong seventh. Vic Coffey, Rich Scagliotta and Ryan Phelps completed the top ten.

The SUNY Canton Sportsman continue to impress on Friday nights. Thirty-seven cars signed in the pits. It took four heats and two consolations to set the 26-car starting field for the 25 lap feature.

Billy Clark Jr. took off from his front row starting spot to dominate the early going of the feature. While Clark was on cruise control out front the racing behind him was two and three wide throughout the field.

Brew%205-27-16006At the halfway point Clark was still showing the way out front while Mike Button, Gregg Kimball, Jack Meeks and Glenn Forward were using every inch of the speedway fighting for second through fifth.

A caution would wipe out the big lead Clark enjoyed and would be just what defending track champion Jack Meeks needed. Meeks was able to put Bicknell on the top of the speedway as he drove around Clark on lap 19 to be scored the new leader. Once out front Meeks was able to outrun Clark by 00.698 of a second and Forward by 00.993 at the finish. Mike Button and Chris Cunningham came home fourth and fifth.

In the 25 lap Firehouse Subs Mod Lite feature Jim Bogett had a dominate car and looked to be the car to beat until a yellow erased his lead. On lap 14 Jeff Sykes caught Bogett using the top groove. While the two raced side by side Bogett caught the implement tire in turn three, spinning his car. Over the remaining laps Sykes was the class of the field winning his second feature in three races run this season. Joe Isabell, Zack Babcock, Mike Mullen and Lowell Zehr finished second through fifth.

Ray Bechler remained undefeated in the JB Logging & Firewood Four Cylinders picking up the 15 lap feature win. The battle for second through sixth was bumper to bumper and side by side that saw Tim Dunn, Sam Curcie, Colby Herzog, Dan Dupra and Mike Sherbeck  in a tight pack at the checkers.

Brew%205-27-16004The Classics On Dirt Stock Car Club put on a competitive feature that came down to the final lap with Richard Applebee picking up the win over Mike Cole.
