Kayle Robidoux in charge at Granby
Passes Bernard for 1st DIRTcar 358 Modified Series win
GRANBY, QC – September 25, 2015 – Kayle Robidoux of St-Constant, Quebec closed out the season at Autodrome Granby with a dominant run in Friday night’s DIRTcar 358 Modified Series 100-lap event.
Robidoux gained the point on lap 8, led until Steve Bernard passed him on lap 63 and then took back the lead with a good inside move in traffic with 11 laps to go.
‘’It is nice to win the final one at Granby, I need to thank my crew as they are the ones that work on the car all week and they provided me with a great ride tonight!’’ Robidoux said in the finish line interview.
Bernard was happy to finish second and gain important points over Chris Raabe, who finished fourth behind David Hebert in third.
‘’We had a good car again tonight,” Bernard said. “Kayle Robidoux was stronger than us tonight but we gained some points over Raabe and we will attack the race tomorrow night at Drummond’’
‘’Our machine was good, but we ran out of tire a little bit and could not compete with Robidoux and Bernard,” Hebert said.
Lance Willix and Kayle Robidoux were on the front row of the remake 96-lap race that was postponed due to inclement weather earlier and Willix led the first six laps.
Raabe was strong on the top side and took the lead on lap seven as Robidoux kept pace in second.
When Robidoux’s solid mount passed Raabe for the lead on lap 8, Bernard joined the lead pack in third spot.
While Robidoux built a long lead, Bernard was able to take second over Raabe on lap 15.
The feature picked up great momentum as Robidoux joined the slower traffic with 80 laps to be completed. Some good battles went on behind the leaders as David Hebert raced in fourth with Mario Clair completing the top-5 25 laps in.
Lapped traffic was a great equalizer as it provided a great battle for second and third between Bernard and Raabe before Bernard was able to pull away.
Hebert joined Raabe for third but the current 358-Modified Series point leader kept his position.
At the halfway point, Robidoux, Bernard, Raabe, Hebert and Fred Gamache were the top-5 without a caution.
Alain Boisvert had a great mount as he took fifth from Clair on lap 58 as the leaders were in heavy traffic.
Willix brought the first caution on lap 62 slowing in turn 4 and Robidoux lost his huge lead.
Several positions were swapped on the restart as Bernard took the lead over Robidoux with Hebert jumping in third.
The race ran two laps under green before Steve Bernier slowed in turn 4 and the yellow was out.
Bernard had another great start over Robidoux and David Hebert. Robidoux was able to draw back closer to the leader with only 20 laps to go.
The leaders were back in heavy traffic as Robidoux tried to pass Bernard for the lead. Robidoux used the inside lane to regain the lead with a great maneuver in turn 2 with 85 laps completed.
Robidoux led the final laps to capture his first event in the DIRTcar 358-Modified Series over Bernard and Hebert.
The Series moved to Autodrome Drummond for round #5 with a special 125-lap event paying a $5,000 to the winner.
