FULTON, NY – August 20,2016 – Mother Nature was a fan of the Fulton Speedway Saturday night. A line of showers and storms just missed the speedway setting up a great night of racing with over one hundred cars signed in the pits.

Feature winners on Ingles Performance & Syracuse Haulers night were Jimmy Phelps (Big Block Modifieds) Todd Root (Sportsman) AJ Kingsley (Late Models) Kyle Perry & Richie Riggs (Novice Sportsman) Chris Bonoffski (Four Cylinders).

Katelyn Hile and Willy Decker brought the 27 car starting field down to the green with Hile leading the opening lap of the 35 lap Tracey Road Equipment DIRTcar Modified feature. Hile’s lead would be short as Decker would grab the top spot one lap later.

The first caution of the race would happen on lap 9 when second and third place running Adam Roberts and Chuck Bower would make contact in turns three and four with Roberts spinning. When the green came back out Bower would drive by Decker to be scored the new leader.

On lap 11 the yellow flag would wave tightening the field up. When the green came back out Jimmy Phelps who started inside the top-ten would drive by Bower and into the lead.

With 15 laps in the record books Phelps built up an over one-second lead while behind him Bower, Pat Ward, Ryan Phelps, Decker, Larry Wight and Chris Hile used every inch of the speedway in a tight fight for second through seventh.

Phelps was on rails opening an almost two-and-a-half second lead when the lap counter showed lap 20. Ward and Bower battled side-by-side for second and third with Decker and Wight still in the hunt running fourth and fifth.

fulton0007With 10 laps to go Phelps still had a healthy lead as Ward ran alone in second. Behind the top two you could have thrown a blanket over Bower, Decker, Wight and Ryan Phelps for third through sixth.

The final yellow flag would wave with 2 laps to go giving the field one last shot at Phelps. Over the remaining laps Phelps was too strong as he was first under the checkers for his third win of the year. Pat Ward, Larry Wight, Ryan Phelps and Chris Hile finished second through fifth.

Thirty-six SUNY Canton Sportsman signed into the pits that took four heats and two consolations to set the twenty-four car starting field for the 25 lap feature.

Todd Root would take the lead from Tim Gareau on lap 2 setting a quick early pace in the feature opening an almost two-second lead by the fifth lap.

With 10 laps complete and no yellows, Root opened a full straight-away lead over the race behind him between Jim Spano, Mike Button, Mike Stanton Jr. and Gareau for second through fifth.

A yellow on lap 13 would erase the almost four-second lead Root built up as he was on cruise control driving away from the field.

With 10 laps to go Root was still the class of the field bolting out to a two-second lead as the final laps started clicking off the lap counter. Stanton, Spano, Button and Ron Davis III still raced close for top five spots.

Over the final laps nobody seriously challenged Todd Root as he cruised first under the checkers. Ron Davis III, Jim Spano, Jeremy Pitcher and Mike Button finished second through fifth.

Billy Eisele would lead the opening lap of the 20 lap Billy Whittaker Cars & Trux RUSH Late Model feature before Johnny Hill took the stop spot on lap two.

At the 5 lap mark Hill and Kevan Cook were in a two-car breakaway at the front of the field. Eisele, Jason Parkhurst and Steve Coit battled for third through fifth.

The yellow would wave on lap 6 when third place Eisele spun in turn four. When the green came back out Cook would be scored the new leader.

On lap 9 Hill and Parkhurst would make just racing contact send Hill hard into the wall exiting turn four, ending his night. Parkhurst also went to the pits. Under the same yellow, leader Cook went to the pits with a right rear flat giving the lead to AJ Kingsley.

Once out front nobody seriously challenged Kingsley the rest of the way as he cruised to the 2.9 second win over second place Bret Belden. Chris Fleming, Steve Coit and Brandon Ford finished third through fifth.

Enough cars signed into the pits for the E&V Energy Novice Sportsman that two 15 lap features were run.

In the first feature Kyle Perry was the class of the field picking up his first career win. Steve Marshall, Tyler Thompson, John Strickler and Jimmy Moyer finished second through fifth.

In the second feature Richie Riggs dominated, leading every lap of the 15 lap main. Brandon Carvey, Ryan Hatherill, Colby Herzog and Patrick LaPage finished second through fifth.

In the 15 lap JB Logging & Firewood Four Cylinder feature Chris Bonoffski would continue his recent hot streak taking the lead on lap 2 from Skip DeGroff and never looking back for his third win of the year. Dakota Bechler, Ray Bechler, Chuck Powelczyk and Quinn Wallis grabbed second through fifth.
