GEORGETOWN, DE – Three states, six tracks, 279 feature laps and it all comes down to this!

The 2016 Bob Hilbert Sportswear Short Track Super Series (STSS) Fueled By VP Velocita South Region championship will be decided at the Georgetown Speedway ‘Blast at the Beach’ on Tuesday, August 30.

For the third consecutive year, the historic Georgetown half-mile will play host to the ‘Blast at the Beach’ promotion, a 35-lap big-block/small-block Modified event offering a winner’s share of $5,000, with $1,000 reserved for 10th and $400 to take the green flag. The total payout for this event exceeds $25,000!

The $8,500 STSS South champion will be decided by 35 laps of feature racing at Georgetown. Increased championship points will be on the line at this event, adding to the drama!

After six events, Stewart Friesen of Sprakers, N.Y., has accumulated 510 points and leads the standings by 49 points over defending STSS South champion Ryan Watt of Boyertown, Pa.

Duane Howard of Oley, Pa., is third, 77 points back, followed by Ryan Godown of Ringoes, N.J., 81 points in arrears and Craig Von Dohren of Oley, Pa., 116 points back.

PM_GTown_032516-23Completing the top-10 currently are Anthony Perrego of Montgomery, N.Y. (-121); Billy Pauch Jr. of Milford, N.J. (-123); Jordan Watson of Milford, Del. (-129); Billy Pauch of Frenchtown, N.J. (-138); and Jeff Strunk of Boyertown, Pa. (-152).

There have been six different winners in as many STSS Modified South Region races contested this season. Perrego was the winner at Georgetown to open the series in March. Wade Hendrickson scored a Bridgeport (N.J.) Speedway April win. Watt topped the Big Diamond (Pa.) May visit, with Friesen scoring later that month at Delaware International. Pauch Jr. was the New Egypt (N.J.) winner in June, with Godown the most recent victor in the series debut at Susquehanna (Pa.).

Joining the Modifieds on the program are Crate 602 Sportsman ($1,000 to win), Delmarva Chargers and Delaware Super Trucks. A rain date of August 31 is in place.

2016 will mark the third ‘Blast at the Beach’ running.

Last year, local driver Watson drove to a popular victory with the crowd.

In the first event contested in 2014, New York teenager Tyler Dippel invaded and stole the show.

PM_GTown_032516-14Track conditions have been a focus by the Georgetown management team this season to correlate with off-track clean-up and improvements. Competitors have raved about the tacky and racy conditions presented during the two most recent programs: the Ultimate Super Late Model Series stop on June 2 and URC 360 Sprint Car/Modified doubleheader on July 22.

During the July 22 program, H.J. Bunting scored a victory in the ‘Blast at the Beach’ qualifier and earned a guaranteed redraw position for the main event on Aug. 30. Bunting heads to the ‘Blast at the Beach’ knowing his Jake Marine-owned No. 85 is already in the starting field.

General information, times, prices and rules for the ‘Blast at the Beach’ have been posted on both the track and series websites: http://www.thegeorgetownspeedway.com/?page_id=369
