BREWERTON, NY – July 28, 2017 – Friday night at the Brewerton Speedway Matt Hulsizer picked up one of the more popular wins of the season in the Tracey Road Equipment Big Block Modifieds.

Hulsizer took the lead on a lap 4 restart from Jeremy Smith and looked to run away and hide. The win was not an easy one as in the late going Hulsizer had to get through two-wide traffic at the back of the field and hold off heavy pressure from Billy Decker to win by a slim 0.575 at the Checkers.

Other winners on Ferris Mowers night were, Alan Fink (Sportsman) Jeff Sykes (Mod Lites) Dakota Bechler (4-Cylinders).

After early race yellow fever in the 35 lap Modified feature, Matt Hulsizer would use the outside groove to take the lead from Jeremy Smith as the race tried to get into some sort of rhythm.

When the race reached the 10-lap mark Hulsizer’s Bicknell was quick at the front of the field opening a half-a-straightaway lead over Ryan Bartlett. Mike Mahaney, Jeremy Smith and Mike Bowman were having a battle of their own for third through fifth.

At lap 15 Hulsizer, Bartlett and Mahaney still occupied the top three spots with Billy Decker from the 17th starting spot and Chris Hile showed on the scoring tower.

On lap 20 Hulsizer was dealing with cars trying to put them a lap down and that allowed Bartlett to cut into the lead. Decker, Mahaney and Pat Ward were still in contention, racing for third through fifth.

With 10-laps to go and no yellows, Hulsizer opened a 2.5 second lead by over Bartlett as he would soon have to contend with Decker who was rapidly closing the distance.

On lap 28 Decker moved into second and now set his sights on Hulsizer who was trying to find a way by back markers who were racing two and three wide in front of him.

With 4-laps to go, Decker, who has three feature wins this year, caught Hulsizer, setting up a dash to the checkers.

Over the final laps Hulsizer and Decker would slug it out in lapped traffic with Decker pulling even, running the top of the speedway. Hulsizer, seeing Decker had the quick lane on the top groove, changed his lane from the bottom, winning by a slim 0.575 over Decker at the checkers for his first Brewerton win since 2015. Ryan Bartlett, Pat Ward and Mike Mahaney finished third through fifth.

There were 29 cars signed into the pits for the SUNY Canton Sportsman with all cars starting the 25-lap feature.

Point leader Alan Fink would take the lead on a restart after a lap 8 caution and would lead the rest of the way, winning by 1.409 seconds over Tyler Trump. Todd Root, Chris Cunningham and Rich Townsend finished third through fifth.

In the 20 lap Firehouse Subs Mod Lite feature Jeff Sykes took the lead on lap 4 and looked like he would cruise to the easy win. A yellow on lap 14 would tighten the field up for a dash to the checkers. Over the remaining laps Sykes would have to hold off a strong challenge from Mike Mullen for the victory. Zack Babcock, Justin Williams and Lowell Zehr came home third through fifth.

In the caution, free 15 lap JB Logging and Firewood 4-Cylinder feature Dakota Bechler would charge to the lead on lap 2 from his 9th starting spot to grab his second win of the year. Ray Bechler, Jacobe Palmiter, Quinn Wallis and Chris Bonoffski finished second through fifth.

This coming Friday, August 4th the Billy Whittaker Cars & Trux Late Models will be making their only appearance of the season. The Tracey Road Equipment Big Block Modifieds, SUNY Canton Sportsman and JB Logging & Firewood 4-Cylinders will also be in action. The Firehouse Subs Mod Lites have the week off.

Adult grandstand admission is $12 with everyone 18 years old and younger free. Pit is $27 participant, $30 nonparticipant. Grandstands open at 5:30 with racing at 7:30.
