Highlight In The Making: Tuesday Night’s (May 5) Short Track Super Series ‘Anthracite Assault’ At Big Diamond Speedway To Boast Diverse Field, Big Payout & “True Special Event” Feel; Pre-Race Activities PlannedAnthraciteAssault

MINERSVILLE, PA – Tuesday night’s (May 5) return of the ‘Anthracite Assault’ to Big Diamond Speedway is a 2015 dirt Modified season highlight in the making.

An anchor facility of the Keystone State, Big Diamond Speedway, will play host to one of the year’s most diverse big-block/small-block Modified fields when the Short Track Super Series (STSS) Fueled By Hi-Tek invades for the 50-lap event. The ‘Anthracite Assault’ is unique in that STSS Bob Hilbert Sportswear North Region and Pioneer Pole Buildings Inc. South Region presented By Scotty’s Speed & Diesel points will both be offered.

This is the only time all season both regions of the STSS will race together in a combined event. The total Modified pay structure tops $25,000, with additional bonuses, lap money and contingency awards adding to that number. The winner earns $5,000-plus, with $1,000 reserved for 10th and $400 to take the green flag.

A number of the STSS regulars have never turned a lap at the Big Diamond oval, making this program a ‘wild card’ for many. The list of drivers expected ranges geographically from Delaware International Speedway champion Jordan Watson to Woodhull (N.Y.) Raceway champion Billy Van Pelt.

Thus far in 2015, BD Motorsports Media LLC has promoted three events: the North Region opener at Orange County (N.Y.) Fair Speedway April 11 won by Stewart Friesen of Sprakers, N.Y., the Bridgeport (N.J.) Speedway South Region April 19 lid-lifter topped by Rich Laubach of Hellertown, Pa., and the rescheduled ‘Gobbler’ at N.Y.’s Accord Speedway April 14 which produced a career highlight victory for Hurley, N.Y., driver Jackie Brown Jr. All three drivers – Friesen, Laubach and Brown – plan to be in attendance at Big Diamond.

At least six states and the Canadian province of Ontario will be represented in what is expected to be a star-studded field.

The ‘Anthracite Assault’ is shaping up to be more than a race. It will be a true event!

T102, the Pottsville, Pa.-based 101.9 FM “Best Songs on the Radio” will be live on location at Big Diamond 5-7 p.m. broadcasting from the speedway grounds. DJ “RC” will be on hand to take in the action and meet listeners.

Ms. Motorsports 2015 Shelby Harper will attend her first STSS Modified event to meet race fans.

Appropriate for the Anthracite Region special, the “Coal Miner’s Daughter” will make an appearance. Ms. Area Auto Racing News 2015 Dylanne Hodge will take on the “Coal Miner’s Daughter” role during the night.

Dave’s Racing Collectibles will make the tow from Connecticut with a trailer on hand to sell a variety of national and local racing items.

Bob Hilbert Sportswear has produced eye-catching event apparel with an “anthracite” theme which will be on sale in the pit and grandstand areas.

STSS Modifieds will be joined on the program by Sportsman (Open vs. Crate 602) in a $1,000-to-win, $100-to-start 25-lap main. Doug Borger’s XCel 600 Modifieds will be in action with $1,000 on the line for the winner of the 20-lap special.

In the event of wet weather, a rain date of Wednesday, May 6 is in place.

Gates, both in the grandstand and pit areas, will open at 4 p.m. in the grandstand and pit areas. The drivers’ meeting is set for 6:30 p.m. Hot laps hit the track at 7 p.m. with racing at 7:30 p.m.

Adult grandstand admission is $25. Kids under 12 and active military with ID are admitted free. Pit admission is $35, with no license required.
